Quick range report: IMR 8208 XBR under 168gr SMK
I went out this morning to try out 3 loads of the new IMR 8208XBR that I bought. I did an audette ladder a few days ago and decided to shoot a few groups of 39.3, 40.6, and 42.9 grains each under 168 gr SMKs
I took my previous best performing load as a control. It was 168 speer match over 39.9gr Accurate 2460 When I got to the range, conditions became far less than favorable. temperage was great, high 60s, but as soon as I raised the flag, the wind kicked up. it started around 10mph, but by the end of my shoot, I was having to wait on lulls in the 30ish mph gusts that were blowing mostly straigh across the range, but occasionally shifted to about 20* off headwinds.... my results were quite favorable regardless. All groups were3 shots at 200yd with my Remington 700, 26" 1:12 with a nikon 3-9x40 off a bipod with a rear bag My control round shot an average .901 MOA, with one fat group at 1.303, and the others falling between .723 and .794 42.9 gr of 8208 XBR shot a group at 1.117 MOA, one at 1.069 MOA, averaging 1.093. I culled the 3rd group, because I could only find 2 holes. I wanted to say I put 2 in one hole because the 2 were only .246 MOA apart... but they were to clean, so I think I lost one bullet to a gust. 39.3 gr of 8208 XBR shot an average of .865 MOA with [email protected], [email protected], and a nice one at .412 40.6gr of 8208 XBR is the load that really shined though. The average was .512 MOA with [email protected], [email protected], and [email protected] MOA All in all, I am thrilled with these results. I'll take .5 MOA any day. and considering my control load will shoot 5 on a good day, I would not be surprised if I can bring that 40.6gr load down to a .3 or .4 in calm weather.
