222 Good Load

I am buying a old 788 Remington in 222 and would like someone to give me a good load for it.
Thanks

its best to find the load that your rifle likes from a powder com. you like. like hodgdons.

you can go to hodgdons.com and look up there load data

Agreed, you'll want to do some experimentation to see what really shoots in your rifle. For a Sako L461 Vixen that my brother shoots it's favorite load is 18.5 grains of IMR 4198 behind a 50 gr Nosler. It's kind of on the slower side of 222 velocities but it shoots tighter than the faster loads. I watched him shoot a 1/2" group at 200 yards one time with this load. But it also shoots the faster loads with acceptable accuracy. You might try working up with 4198 for starters and see how you rifle likes it.

Agree that 4198 is a very happy marriage with this chambering. I prefer the flat base 53 grain Sierra MatchKing, but right around 18.5 grains in my Remington 600 and it's a happy camper, punching cloverleafs all day long.

These are all TOP SECRET loads, so don't tell your brother in law:
WW brass, RP 7 1/2 primer, 21.0 of RL7, 50 grain Speer SP, 2.130" oal.
WW brass, CCI 400, 24.0 of BLC2, 52 grain Speer HP, 2.130"
RP brass, RP 6 1/2, 20.0 of H4198, 50 grain Nosler, 2.150"
WW brass, CCI 400, 24.0 of W748, 55 grain RP PLHP, 2.130"

Every load will shoot into 1/2" at 100 out of my old M700. I had a 788 that just LOVED load #2. CB.
