Most of the people I see on forums that bash Taurus have never owned one.

I think their 1911s built after 2008 are excellent values. I have had two, down to one - but it had nothing to do w/ the gun. I traded it away for a different piece I wanted more.

Both the Taurus 1911s I have experience w/ are reliable, and accurate as any Kimber, Springfield Armory, Colt, Para Ordnance, and Nighthawk Custom that I have either owned or have experience with shooting. Yes the Taurus is defnitely not a Nighthawk Custom, but mine ran as well (no failures of any kind w/ either) and was just as accurate for me.

I don't have any experience w/ their 92 series. Then again - I'm not a huge fan of tBeretta 92s either - but to each his own.

I do think Taurus, in general, is a decent gun for the money.

I have a bit of experience with Taurus handguns namely the model 85, 99, 92 and 608 and find them to be very good.

They are by no means the best in their class but they work and work well.

As a Range Officer etc. I have seen and shot many a Taurus pistol.
I own several also.
They are a fine gun.
I once had to send back one of my PT 1911's because of accuracy problems. Within three weeks, the gun was back in my hands with a new Match barrel, a beautiful custom trigger job, and all new parts. It shoots as good as my Kimber Custom Target II now.

Also, Taurus offers the best lifetime warranty in the business.

My favorite 9mm is the Taurus PT92.

I've been shooting the 92 style guns from Taurus and Beretta for a long time, I just love them.

A few years back I bought my first Taurus. It happend to be a "Rageing Bull" in 480 RUGER. I have taken 5 whitail with that revolver. It aint for sale! Last year I got a 709 Slim and found it to be a nice CCW. I colllect mostly U.S.A. made guns, but I like Taurus. I'm going to be getting a PT1911 as soon as next windfall shows up.

WOW, all the Taurus haters must be on vacation this weekend, Maybe a Smith&Wesson fan club meeting somewhere.
I have been considering several Taurus firearms. I now own only one. A Public Defender Poly. That in it's self will open a whole new can of worms on this thread, sorry,
My experience with Poly has been great. The only functioning problem ever was with one certain brand of 410 ammo. Simple fix, don't use that brand! Accuracy both with buckshot, and 45LC far exceeded my expectations. Way better than what the nay sayers claim! It appears to me that all the basher do so on hearsay with only minimal, if any, experience with Taurus guns. I think it's mostly just because they aren't brand x,y, or z that they grew up with. Yes, there are cases of problems. Which get fixed under the lifetime guarantee. I have read of problems with a lot of others on this and other forums. Often with some of the most prized, top of the line makes.

Taurus firearms are shipped to miami but it takes so long you'd think it was going to brazil. To those saying that bashers gave never owned a Taurus, you need to use the search function on this site and any other. The facts of the matter are, taurus is very innovative and makes handguns that look and feel great. The problem is, their products don't hold up and their CS is terrible. Rather than just copying other companies designs they should start copying QC and CS of companies like S&W, Ruger, ect.

I have read, literally, hundreds of Taurus threads in the last seven years or so. In all that time I have seen maybe two or three people say that Taurus paid for shipping. They are either magicians or liars. I'll give them the benefit if the doubt and say they are magicians...but deep inside, I doubt it.

From my experience that statement holds no truths. Taurus does not pay for shipping, they often require multiple trips to correct problems and getting updates is near impossible. The recent looks good on paper but in reality your better off finding a smith (provided you don't need parts).

I have a Model 605 that had hammer lock-up issues and had to send it back to Taurus. Luckily I'm from Tampa and only had a 7 day turnaround time.

As for their customer service, it was all done via email (very prompt) and they even shipped it back 1-day air.

Although they did all the necessary repairs and the revolver performs flawlessly now, I'm somewhat reluctant to buy another.

It shouldn't make a difference as long as all the rounds are put in correctly. Sounds like maybe an ammo issue. Is it the same exact ammo that the other 2 boxes were? Sometimes any pistol can be picky about ammo.

My first gun purchase was a PT92 and I have loved it since the day I bought it. I have easily put over 5000 rounds through it without a single malfunction to speak of. I also just recently bought at 24/7 OSS in .45 ACP. Unfortunately, I did experience some problems with it. First range trip: 200 rounds no issue. Second Range trip: Trying out different HP rounds, the striker pin indicator broke in the top of the slide rendering the gun inoperable. I sent it back to taurus (had to pay $70 to overnight ship it) on a monday afternoon and got it back that friday. On my next trip to the range the gun was having alot of misfeed malfunctions (both HP and FMJ rounds). Sent back to Taurus a second time (TAURUS COVERED SHIPPING) and got the gun back in less than a week again. Latest trip to the range: 200 rounds FMJ ran FLAWLESSLY! Despite the problems I am thouroughly happy with the gun and especially satisfied with the taurus customer service.

hey orionenger, cool the magician/liar stuff, your lack of knowledge in this area causes you to reduce yourself to name calling. I blew up my PT1911 (ammo issue) called Taurus, they arranged shipping, called me with an ETA then it arrived when promised with a new barrel and a letter stating what was done, no charge.
Maybe I should put links to Kimber problems, Para problems, the thing with the internet is it's too easy for people with biased info to find anything to support their bias and then spread it.
Taurus firearms are equal to any these days and I think that bugs you and I can't understand why, it is afterall a collection of metal parts, same as any manufacturer, don't let it get you all hot and bothered.

I had a Mil Pro 9mm and it wasn't a bad little carry gun, but I sold it as soon as I got my Glock 19. The only real problem with it was it's tight tolerances; it wouldn't do well with remanufactured ammo and would jam if not kept immaculately clean.

A good friend of mine, who's new to handgunning, recently purchased a NIB stainless M92 and brought it over to my house last week to show it off. Aesthetically, the gun looked really sharp, but locking back the slide revealed some extremely deep machine chattermarks on both top edges of the frame's dustcover. The SA trigger pull was also ridiculously heavy, at around 7.5 lbs. on my pull gauge.

We shot it for the first time last Thursday. 200 rounds of 9mm WWB, with no feed problems at all. It was surprisingly accurate too. I'll be doing a bit of triggerwork on his M92 this weekend in an attempt to lighten and improve the pull.

Taurus pays for shipping for the first year. Most Taurus problems are out of the box, so they end up paying a lot for shipping.

I was a big Taurus fan.

I like the design of Taurus'. That being said, Taurus quality control and customer service is absolutely awful. If you get a non-defective gun, you are in good shape. If you get a gun that has problems, be prepared to fix it yourself or send it for a 2 month vacation in Florida.

Here is my experience:

PT92- No Problems
PT140 Feeding problems Had to send in for repairs
24/7 Pro 40 Compact No problems
24/7 OSS Misfire in DA, I diagnosed and repaired
PT809 List of problems, I repaired and had a local Gunsmith repair
PT709 No problems

Taurus customer service and quality control has not been an exemplar. Those that have have rightly complained and some loudly complained about Taurus. Even considering that they are 20-25% lower in price than the competition, a person spending $300+ on a firearm should expect it to work properly, and be disappointed and upset if it does not.

I do not collect guns. I have two pistols and carry both. One is a Taurus PT709 and the other is a FN FNX-9.

The FNX replaced a Taurus PT809, about two weeks ago. I bought the FNX, because I could not pass it up at the price($400 plus $15 transfer, for a new FNX). I sold the Taurus for $300. I was not unhappy with the PT809, but the FNX is a better gun. After fixing the initial problems, the PT 809 was very reliable. However, there was always a doubt in my mind, because it was a Taurus.

I bought a Taurus PT1911 used, it was built like a tank, the cock and lock safety broke in just a few weeks, I had it sent back to Taurus it was fixed and I had the weapon back within 3 weeks. I sold that particular weapon nothing against Taurus, just sold it.

I have since bought a Taurus revolver no issues with it.

Last weekend March 5 - 6th, I bought an H&K P7 PSP, this weapon it not functioning 100%,

more than half of the time, the squeeze cocker is not releasing the slide, I have fired only 2 rounds through it, and on the second round it jammed, the slide stayed open with rounds still in the magazine, I am still in the process of finding someone local to Richmond VA to service it/fix it, before sending back to H&K to get it fixed. This is not my first P7 PSP, or my first H&K either.

Firearms are a mechanical device, and all mechanical device can and will eventually fail. Most of the time between failures we all hope is in the many many years, but failures can happen, even to a new one.

Will this keep from buying another Taurus or H&K, I doubt it, if the price is right I would give any weapon a chance.

I owned a Taurus PT 140 Pro. It was a good pistol, not as accurate as some of my others when fired from a rest, but its size lent it to be a good carry gun. I never experienced any of the horror stories that others have with Taurus but was not satisfied with the accuracy. I ended up selling it for $285 on gunbroker (not bad considering I purchased it for $310 brand new 2.5 years earlier). I sold it to purchase the new XDM compact which is similar in size and much more accurate than the Taurus. All in all I am much happier with the XDM than the Taurus, but never experienced any catastrophic failure with a Taurus. Would I buy one again? No, but that is a personal preference and it all comes down to what you want out of your handgun and what you are happy with.

I've owned a Taurus Judge for over 2 years...No Problems at all.
I've owned a Taurus pt111 mil pro for 3 years...No Problems at all
I've owned a Glock 21sf for 1 1/2 years...It's going back to the factory for repairs.
I've owned a Smith & Wesson 40s&w for 3 years...It went back to the factory for repairs.

My Taurus Guns haven't been the problem that my some of my other guns have been.
