Shotgun choke codes
Is there a master list of choke codes for American and foreign shotguns for the before-choke-tubes era anywhere?
Thanks, Jameson |

No, you have to find a reference here and a reference there, like the Blue Book. Here's a start.

The Hallowell chart is a good reference; otherwise, pre-choke tube guns, if not marked as shown, might have barrel dimensions stamped on the barrels - one indicating the bore size, the other the muzzle diameter - many times this was done in MM's, so you might see something like 18.5 stamped - making it a 12 gauge with approximately bore size of .729 - fairly common dimension. Then you might find on the same barrel a stamping like 18.0. When converted, it gives a dimensional difference of .020, or commonly known as Modified
