Ithaca 37 Question

I recently purchased an Ithaca 37. It doesnt have the engraving on the side and i was wondering if this meant anything. The barrel is marked Made in USA along with other standard markings. (2 3/4in, ect)

The serial number on it is 371246679. Its got an 18inch barrel, 4+1 capacity, and wooden furniture.

Was it common for 37's to not have the side engraving? Or do i have something special?

The engraving was less common. many thousands (hundreds of?) were made plain. The engraving is also tied to the newer models.

You have a 1972 M37 that was most likely intended to be a LE gun. Most of these were fitted with 18" or 20" bead-sighted barrels, and would be matte blued or parked and generally have non-checkered, oil finished stocks. They are somewhat less common that the "engraved" versions, but were very common from the '60's and early '80's. Ithaca was going after the LE market very strongly during that time period.
