Hornady dies on a RCBS press?
excuse my ingnorance due to being new to reloading but I have the dies I need for a .300 Savage made by Hornady But the press I was given is an older RCBS Are dies intercompatible between different press manufacturers

If they are the standard thread versions, then yes. They should be.

Yes, dies from different manufacturers are a standard 7/8x14 except for really large case calibers like 50 BMG. All .300 Savage dies I've seen are that size and so is the RCBS press (I have an old Reloder Special 2, great single stage press).

I also use Hornady dies on my RCBS presses and have never had a lick o trouble.

Only the SDB dies are proprietary, I think
As far as I know, the only proprietary dies available belong to the Dillon Square Deal B press, the rest, except for the already mentioned 50 BMG, should be a standard size.
