IDPA Calibers

Does anyone know why the IDPA rules limit handguns to 9mm and above? I have a nice Bersa Thunder .380 that I would enjoy using.

.380 IS permitted in BUG see P. 26 of the rule book.

.380 IS permitted in BUG see P. 26 of the rule book. Club level ONLY.

See P. 28 of the rule book Power Floor which talks about using "service type" ammunition - the .380 9mm short is not service ammunition although it may be FMJ.

There are listed power floors which, however denigrated by the tactical crowd as wimpish and gamer, would worry other competitors, MD and SO if used in a Bersa Thunder or be flat impossible to meet in a blowback. Many consider the .380 inadequate for a defensive pistol however appropriate for a back up gun.

Consider asking at your local club about shooting for your own amusement only - timed but not scored.
