.270 Win will work fine for elk with a 150gr or deer with the 130gr. Funny thing, back in the day(1894 or there 'bouts) a lot of elk fell to the little 'ol 30/30 Win. Still, I'd go with an '06 based ctg. (25-06, 270, 280, 30-06, 35 Whelen) and not look back.
