Yes you can, but IMO not worth the money to go back to Savage for one. If you can find a take off on eBay or gunbroker, or check over on Savage Shooters for one used it might be worth it. You can usually pick up a good after market stock for less money than Savage will sell you a new Accustock.

How much did you want to spend? $100?... $400? Boyds stocks are about $100. Bell & Carlsons are around $150-$220 and Choate makes 'em from cheap to $400 plus.

Is the standard stock wood or plastic?
If wood why not bed it? I assume that you will be hunting with it.

You could contact Savage about buying one. Savage has changed their actions several times and buying aftermarket for them is confusing. It is easy to get a stock that does not fit your gun. Even the factory accustock won't fit some fairly new rifles.

In my experience buying straight from the factroy will get you more quailty for the dollar than aftermarket at times. Other times it is cheaper to go aftermarket, but you won't know until you price one from Savage.

Ebay or buying used is a good idea if you are certain it will fit your gun. Many guys put on aftermarket stock and sell the factory stocks at good prices. If you look around you may find a deal, but it could take months. I have 3 rifles in McMillans I bought used. I kept my eyes open for over a year looking for 2 of them and used the factroy stock until I did.

Well here was my take on it because I tried to do exactly what you suggested in your first post. The easiest way to get a quality stock is to call Savage and buy an Accustock, but be prepared for sticker shock. Savage quoted me almost $400 for it a few years ago, and that wasn't including any bottom metal that I was going to need to convert over from a blind magazine.

Since you said that you just bought the Savage I'm guessing it the "Center feed Action" with 4.4" spacing between your two action screws. This will severely limit your choices available in an aftermarket stock as the demand for hunting style stocks hasn't been high enough yet to get aftermarket companies to change the old stock patterns over to fit the new screw spacing. This doesn't mean you cant modify an old stock to fit a new action since all they did was move the front action screw forward, but since you aren't using a blind magazine this could prove a little more challenging.

Your options really are limited on what you are going to find.

1. Call Savage and buy a new Accustock.
2. Do some serious searching online for a used Accustock.
3. Call Stockade Gunstocks or McMillan and have them build you the stock you want for at most $150-200 more than an Accustock.
4. Go to a wood stock like Boyds or Stockys offers and buy the pieces to convert to a blind mag or have someone inlet for your bottom metal if you can't do this yourself.
6. Full length bed your rifle using an aluminum or carbon fiber arrow shaft to stiffen up the forearm, this is what I did. I used an old aluminum arrow that I had and a $30 Acraglass bedding kit from the local Sportsman's Warehouse.

$400 for an accustock is way more than I'd pay. You can have a custom Mcmillan built for $438.

The recoil lug shape is different between Accustock and non-Accustock rifles.

You may have to change the recoil lug out.

There are pictures of the difference out on the web.

D3MON You can buy mine

I have an Accustock that I took it off my Savage 10-FCP-k 308. I've got is sitting in the closet with all the screws that I took off. I'm using the rifle with an XLR chassis. I can post a picture here for you. If you're interested.

The savages with the accustock have three action screws and a different recoil lug. Also the barrel nut is smooth. I don't think that the regular action will bolt to the accustock properly. Also the bolt release is in a different place.

Correct. You have to have the right action to match the accustock or it won't fit. The screws vary depending on model and I would guess the year also makes a difference.

I have the 3 original screws and the original four round magazine.

Here's what the magazine and the screws. Each one is different.

Earlier savage had the bolt release to the right of the trigger guard. The new ones have it in front of the trigger guard.

If you want to see what the bedding od the stock looks like let me know and I'll take a picture.

First off there seems to be some confusion on the actions here. Since 2006 when Savage changed the mag release on the detachable magazines the screw spacing has been 4.4". Here is a good reference on Savage action screw spacing. Savage didn't produce an Accustock rifle until 2009 so all Accustocks use the 4.4" screw spacing. Unless you have a Single Shot Target action all Savage actions use only two action screws. Even in the picture posted above there is only two action screws, the third (wood) screw only attachés the trigger guard to the stock.

Yes the Accustock uses a different recoil lug or at least it did when first introduced in 09. However Savage is already on the second generation of Accustock where they took out the Accuwedge that was giving everyone fits when re-installing the stock. Regardless if the recoil lug is different the OP's barreled action can be fitted to the stock. If it isn't a drop in fit and he doesn't want to modify the stock to fit, a qualified gunsmith or someone with a little talent and patience can do it as well. Same goes with the bolt release and barrel nut change, I'd lay money down that Savage didn't change the stock at all when they changed the bolt release or barrel nut.

The question is does the OP really want an Accustock bad enough to track one down or pay the price to get one from Savage.

D3MON,
If mine could work for you I'd be glad to let you have it for $50. It's just taking up space in my armory.

I distinctly remember when Savage introduced the Accu-Stock , the said it couldn't be retrofitted to other Savage models . With enough work almost anything can be made to fit . It's the end result and cost that decides whether it's prudent to do so !

Here is a link to better pictures of the differences between an Accustock rifle and Non-Accustock. At least with the old Accuwedge model. The only thing not allowing the barreld action to fit in the stock is the recoil lug as was described earlier.

Since they use the same action, it would only take me a few hours with a file to get the recoil lug on one of my centerfeed rifles to fit the accustock. Like I said if you have a little patience and take your time you could get it to fit easily enough. I think it would be safer to change the recoil lug shape than to open up the bedding block as you don't know how much aluminum is really in there. If it is a heavy recoiling rifle it might cause some problems it the recoil lug area is weak.
