30.06 with 125gr.

I'm going to be loading up some 125 gr. Sierra Pro Hunters, for my 30.06, Remington 7600, for antelope hunting. Just seeing if anyone had a good recipe/combination I should try. I have Winchester primers (WLR), a wide variety of brass to choose from. Powder on hand is IMR 4064, 4320, 4007ssc, and Varget. I'm not necessairly looking for blazing velocitys, but would be fine if still accurate. As usual any advice is greatly appreciated, Thanks

most accurate load for me

Hi,
I have a Remington 700 in 30-06 and although the barrel in your 7600 is 1.5" shorter than mine (20") the twist rate is the same.

Therefore, if I may, I would suggest that you try a few groups with Hornady SST 150Gr', with a muzzle velocity of 2450 FPS.

This is slow enough as to cause hardly any meat damage and with my rifle it groups regularly 1/2" (worst is 3/4") at 100M.

In the hunting field, two weeks ago my wife shot a springbok at 350M, hit it at the base of the neck with the first shot.

For larger antelopes I use the 180Gr, at 2550 FPS. ( I shot a very large Oryx, also at the neck, and he did not walk from where he was hit)

since I use locally made powders (Suoth Africa) there is no point in specifying my charges, but my loads are mild to medium, far from the specified max loads for the powder that I use.

the nice thing with the plastic tips is that they are almost impossible to deform (unless done on purpose) so they are very well suited for hunting.

Cheers,

Danny

My uncle shoots 125gr Nosler ballistic tips almost exclusively. I don't know the charge weight but he loads IMR 4895 to about 2900 fps, going up to his house this weekend, I'll find out the weight.
