Lee-Enfield Type 1 Mk III SMLE 7.62 NATO Parts

Hello,

I have a buddy that just got a Lee-Enfield Type 1 Mk III SMLE 7.62 NATO and needs some parts. He has not had any luck in finding anything so far. Does anyone know of a source of any parts for this? I have found some parts but they state that they are for the .303. Are these close enough that the parts are interchangable?

In particular he is looking for:

Magazine

Front Sight (tallest avaialble)

Extractor

Extractor Spring

Thanks for the help

Dave

You mean a No1 MkIII right? The only rifle called Type anything is the Japanese Arisaka. Springfield Sporters should have what your friend needs or try Numrich.

Your friend appears to have lucked onto an Ishapore 2 or 2A1 which is an Indian made replica of a No1 MkIII with better steel to handle the pressures of the 7.62 round.

I'm pretty sure I've seen magazines on E-gunparts.com.
The magazine will be Much more square than the mag for a .303 and the extractor will be shaped differently enough that they are not interchangable with .303 parts.

my extractor broke but you can use a pin spring/ mechanical pencil spring in place of the extracter spring.

try checking gunbroker.com or e-gunparts.com, if that fails just do a google search

Thanks for the pointers.

I think it is a Ishapore 2 or 2A1. I looked on E-Gunparts and looks like I am finding what he needs. I figured there might be a difference in the magazine and extractor because of the difference in case design. He is going to verify that this is the correct gun so I can order up the parts for him. The next challenge will be to get the parts to him in Germany. It shouldn't be too hard. I know I shipped parts from Germany to here in the US when I lived over there.

One other question. He asked about a front sight post as well. He requested the tallest one that was avaialble. Does anyone know if these came in different sizes. From looking at the parts list I only see one size. The fact that there are separate parts for the blade of the sight and the base leads me to think that they may be adjustable in some manner.

Thanks
