Ithaca Deerslayer paint job

Yesterday I bought an Ithaca 37 Deerslayer. The outside is rough but the barrel and action show little wear. It has a 20 " barrel with rifle sights.

The finish on the stock and forend appears to be black paint. Did they come this way from the factory? Or was the result of some nimrod entertaining himself between seasons?

I have owned a number of 870's over the years, but I am impressed with the function and pointing of this gun.

thanks,

Jay

I've seen some police 37s like that. It could be a factory job, in which case you can bet the wood is utility grade lumber, not fine walnut.

And,the 37 is a fine shotgun...
