edify me about the .460 Rowland
So I take it's a step up in performance from the .45 Super yet can still fire .45 ACP as is. Cool!

Think mid 44 Magnum Power... Mines a XD 45 Tactical converted by Wild West Guns....
Corbon, Buffalobore, Underwood and Wilson Combat all offer ammunition for it. I just bought some underwood 185 grain/1575 fps rounds (Gold Dots) 1019 ft lbs... Georgia Arms use to sell ammo for it but they seem to be permanently our or maybe it just sells out too fast. Shooting it is comparable to a 45, yes it has a bit more umph but not bad... I'm getting ready to do a after Christmas trigger job on mine..

bgutz, your location "frozen tundra" suggests Alaska.
Have you had the opportunity to hunt with it? |

I would buy a 5" XD and get this conversion kit
http://shop.460rowland.com/conversio...?product_id=67 At around 1,000 ft lbs it is a serious step up from a 10mm |

For my pistol at least most of the recoil seems to be straight back... Very accurate!

I have a Government conversion setup. Recoil is straight back and you know that you are shooting something. Somebody said very, but I will say super accurate. If you roll your own, you can use .45 acp components because the only difference is the case. Fun fun fun. Easier and more enjoyable to shoot than a hot .44 mag. Be edified.

Much obliged, gentlemen.
I may just have to obsolete a whole passel of my revolvers. This seems like a better way to go than a behemoth Desert Eagle. They are just too big for my hands (which aren't small). I wonder if you can get a long slide (I realize the comp makes it longer already). |

Have a 1911 Conversion
I put the .460 Rowland conversion on my Kimber and shot it Monday for the first time. Powerful but manageable. I did have issues with my premium Wilson mags. The base plates on both began to work their way off after 4 or 5 rounds. I see Wilson has a specific .460 Rowland mag which has a different base plate than mine.
I shot 185 grain Buffalo Bore which is extremely accurate. Since the round chambers on the mouth and is 1/16 longer in chamber than .45 ACP I would assume reliabilty with .45 ACP in the .460 Rowland would be an issue? |

I haven't tried 45 ACP in mine so I cant say... Also my conversion involved a custom barrel so I still have the original barrel I could simply drop in. I do like how the Rowland performs though.. Fun to shoot, manageable and yet impressive!
Enjoy!

Does anyone know how easily the .460 Glock/XD kits can be removed? It looks like the ported ones would be a quick swap, but the counter-weighted version includes some kind of glue? I'm curious how easy it'd be to swap back to .45acp.

Moyer,if you look at the pic of my XD conversion above you will see that it doesn't have that big counterweight... Its simply a fitted drop in barrel with 2 ports.

They don't make my Rowland kit yet. A Glock 21 LS 6" internal ported barrel, and an open top G21 Long slide.
I'm not sure this is feasible, maybe you could take a Lone Wolf barrel and modify it to take the 460 Rowland round. It's a 45acp round but just a little longer, so little should have to be done. I don't have the money yet, so this project is on hold. I'm not a stroke, so I don't want to make call's until I can back it up with money. Undersatnd? |

Wait, I changed my mind. A G21 6.61" threaded barrel modified for 460 Rowland. That with a Comp on the end.

A friend of mine has the .45 Rowland conversion for XD45. You can switch between factory .45 acp and .45 Rowland by regular field strip and reassemble. It is that easy. The Rowland barrel is extended and ported. My Rowland conversion on my Government is the same procedure as any full length guide rod conversion setup.
I really love the Rowland setup, and I have converted three friends along the way. It is that good. |
