10-22 sling swivel studs

My buddy wants to install sling swivels on his Ruger 10-22 with a black, synthetic--plastic?, factory stock.
I haven't seen it yet, and was wondering if the stock is solid, or possibly reinforced in the proper areas that need to be drilled. If not has anyone seen a specific kit containing the parts that would be necessary to preform this task?
Any advice and suggestions would be appreciated. We're not so brilliant that we would turn down experienced help.

I have the same "All Weather" 10/22 as you and I drilled the stock for a sling. I got an Uncle Mikes sling swivel kit at Wal-Mart for about $10. The instructions are printed inside the package for "synthetic" stocks.

- First....find center and 2 to 2-1/2" forward of your butt plate.
- Mark a small "X"with a pencil
- Drill a hole with a 7/32" bit... The stock is hollow so you dont need to worry about drilling to a certain depth.
- Turn your stud in SLOWLY using a small nail or pin punch threw the stud hole.
- Repeat the above for the front of the stock but only 1 to 1-1/2" in from front.

Oh, and one stud is longer than the other, so use the longer for the rear and shorter for the front.


They reccomend using an adhesive, but I did not, and my studs are VERY sturdy. I also bought the Super Sling 2 which came with the swivels, so all you really need are the studs.

P.S. make sure you remove everything from the stock before drilling! Good Luck
