Single stack nines... what do you have ???

just picked up a "parts" gun from my local retired builder buddy... I think the frame is a Star, ( the magazine reads Star ) other parts came from where ??? only the builder knows... I know he had been working on it off & on for the last 6 months, had it out to my place a couple times working out the bugs... the lock up it pretty tight, it should be very accurate... over all it looks 1911 ish to me, but I'm not really a semi auto guy... last saturday, in the freezing cold temps, we checked it again, & it functioned flawlessly... he's checkered the back strap & removed a hump, & some sort of bump on the front of the grip, made the grip panels from scratch... it looks pretty ugly right now, in a mix of white, checkered steel, & old blueing... mag holds 8 rounds...

suggestions for a finish / finisher ???

what do you shoot for single stack 9's ???

anyone have a pic of what the Star would have looked like in original format ???

BTW... this has almost nothing in common with the Star gun, other than the mag, & the frame started out as a Star, I know the barrel is custom, the trigger assembly, & the lock up, are all different... the safety was made in his shop...

Sounds like it may have been a Firestar M43.

Decent gun w/decent trigger. I bought mine ~ 1997 or so in anticipation of Ohio getting CCW legislation passed.
By the time it looked like that would happen, Firestar was on the way out.

hmm... mine doesn't look anything like that...

at least the slide looks 1911 ish, & the grip frame does ( now, after mods ) also... the grip looks longer than the Firestar pictured... my mag holds 8... is that how many the Firestar holds ???

I did an internet search, & I think this was the original model of the frame... the projection at the bottom of the front of the grip has been removed, as well as the hump in the back of the grip frame...

... & yes, I do need to get a couple pics of it...

Yes - the M43 could hold 8 rounds.
They weren't supposed to though.
The magazine was only supposed to hold 7.
More than a few odd ball ones would work fine with 8 rounds though.

If the picture you linked to is what yours looks like, it's probably one of the older Stars.
Star made a decent line of 1911 "clones" for a number of years.
IIRC, the model B was/is the most well known.

The Wiki for Star shows a pretty comprehensive lisiting of the different models they made.

it's a quite thin package, like 1/8" - 3/16" thinner than a common 1911... so it's quite easily concealed, even though it's a full sized gun...

I have CZ Compact that works it's way through my CCW battery... I may give that one a rest, & add this, after I get it finished... so open for suggestions on types of finishes, & places to have it done at...

Triple K makes them although AFAIK their production is intermittent. Some GB sellers list them. Be cognizant that there are two types, depending on the type of grip frame on the pistol.

Also, I believe that the pistol in the picture is a Star Model B Super. The Super has a pivoting takedown lever that is not normally removed, rather than a 1911/S&W-style push-out combination slide stop and takedown pin. Super-series Stars use integral barrel cam lockup rather than 1911-style swinging-link lockup, so the barrel can come out with the takedown lever in place.

FWIW the "Super" designation has nothing to do with the .38 Super cartridge; AFAIK Star never made a gun in .38 Super, although Star Model A's will fire .38 ACP, which has reportedly caused a few blown-up guns when a shooter misunderstood what "Super" meant!

SA 1911, Kahr MK9, Kahr CW9, MPA Defender all use single stack magazines. Although, the last one is really not for concealment. LOL.

STI Spartan 9mm. On 1911forum, we have a guy that shot 2" groups at 50 yards from a rest out of the box. I just picked mine up and haven't had a chance to shoot it yet.
