Glock 30 SF owners

Thinking of changing from my G27 9mm conversion to a Glock 30 SF. I think the regular is probably too thick as the G27 frame is pretty wide for me.

Wanted to rent one, but it doesn't seem like any of the ranges around me have them to rent.

Anyone using one for EDC or tried it before?

The frame of the Glock 30SF is thicker than the Glock 27. I think that's what you're asking.

The SF (Short Frame) designation means that the grip is shorter from front to back, has nothing to do with the width. That being said, I have a G29SF, and a G30. The two grips are inter-changeable. I can tell no discernible difference between the two.

The G30 grip width is quite a bit wider (not necessarily on paper) but it real life carry applications between the G30/G29 and the G26/27/33.

I have one that I carry almost daily in an inside-the-waistband holster. It's larger than a Glock 26 or 27 to be sure, but it conceals nicely. The 10 round magazine functions as a pinky grip. I like it a lot. I've had 0 reliability issues.

It is about the sixe of a G19 but thicker. I found it Significantly bigger than a G27 with a G23 mag.

The 21 and 30 are chunckybutts. Consider an M&P compact instead.

I hate to highjack a thread, but I think it will help the OP. Does anyone have a comparison picture of a G30 and a G19/G23?

I've seen them floating around before.

But, my buddy has his G19 on him, and I happen to be carrying my G30. I'll see if he'll let me snap a few comparison picks when we're back by dispatch, unless someone beats me to the punch.

Back on topic-ish, I don't have the SF, but the standard frame. I have small-ish hands, and you definitely feel it when you're holding it, but I love it. I have the Trijicon Hi Def night sights on it, and usually carry it with a TLR-1S attached. It's my EDC. Something just comforting about 10+1 rds of .45 ACP in a small but VERY controllable package.

You didnt state why you want to swap the 9mm G27 out for a G30?
For more of the proverbial firepower?
If thats the case, why not just convert the G27 back to .40 and add a Pearce +0 mag extension for your pinky?
That'll still be smaller, lighter, thinner with similar recoil while still delivering a similar punch.
At standard loadings, I see very little or no advantage for the 45 over 40, nevermind the capacity advantage of the 40.

fwiw, comparison purposes... I'd take the slightly longer, slightly taller, but noticably thinner G23 with its 13+1 over the fatter G30 any day and every day... the G23 is also 4 ounces lighter loaded.

The Glock 30 (SF or not) is a very fat gun--the slide is very beefy, and so is the grip for accommodating a double stack of 45s. The SF just means the back of the grip just under the slide is smaller.

It is noticeably bigger IN YOUR HANDS than the G26 and G27 even if the subcompact G family are relatively similar on paper. It's much closer to it's brother the G29, than any of the other subcompacts.

I had one for my EDC for a while, but I have big hands. If you have trouble gripping the 27, the SF 30 will still be big.

You could always get a single stack G36 if you want thin.

I am looking at use with a 45 ACP carbine.

I don't like the snap of the 40 SW. My score on timed multi-shot strings is much better with 9mm than 40 SW. In fact I can shoot the 9mm subcompact much better than a G22. I already use the grip extensions. Not real sure where the factory barrel is anymore to be honest. One of those in a box somewhere accessories.

I'd probably be carrying a 26 round reload on my ankle.

The single stack is only 6 rounds and won't use the larger mags.
