Round Ball Mould Question ??

I have a Lyman round ball mould that is .319. What is it's application?? I'm guessing it's for a .31 Cal. C&B revolver. I don't run this little stuff so any and all help would be appreciated.

I think that .320 or thereabouts is "O" buckshot. It could be a .32 BP squirrel rifle mould also. You could also use it for slingshot ammo, and if the current "crop" of politicians has their way, that's all we'll be hunting with in a couple years.

I was about to respond, but spent to much time enjoying Crowbeaner's cleaver wit. Then when I got around to it, I saw kwhi43 had given my response. So I am left with just enjoying the thought of a future group of sling shot shooting fools sitting around the internet speaking of the good ole days when them had their guns. Never give up the humor.

I shoot .310 in my .32 but was not sure this .319 could be used with the proper patch. Thanks for your input. I'm down to one .32 T.C. and have plenty of bought balls for now.

The .319 rb is the perfect size for a .31 cal Pocket Pistol. Colt or Remmie. It's a little large for a .32cal muzzlelloading rifle or pistol; although it might work with a .005 lubed patch. YMMV

Thank you Fingers and I suspected as much but I don't usually run this small of a caliber. The balls I use for my .32 rifle, are smaller than this, .310. Good information and could not find any infor on .31 pocket pistols. I have learned much from fellers like you and I thank you. You compliment this forum..

For target shooting, all ball sizes should be bore size. Patching should be thick
enough to fill the grooves. Example= A .45 will be .450 on the bore and if it has .012 deep grooves the groove dia. will be .474 This has to be filled up.
You use a .450 dia. ball and pillow ticking patch that is .020 thick. This will
compress down to .012. Thats .012 on a side plus the .450 ball adds up to .474 . This fills up the groove dia. This combo can be lightly tapped in the
barrel to start, then can be pushed down with one finger on the end of the
ramrod. This is how we all load here where I shoot. Powder chargers should be
what ever it takes to shoot 2000 fps. This happens to be 90 grs GoexFF in
my 45 gun. 60-65 grs GoexFFF in the .40 cal. Hope this helps. This might
not be what most people are used to shooting, but believe me, this is what
works in the real world.

Not exactly sure of the real world you're living in; but it aint like any I've ever been around. 2000fps in a muzzleloader is overkill unless you're going after bear.
