I just made an impulse buying a few days ago. Got a very lightly used SR1911 w/ no ding, dent or scratch mark of any kind for $600 along w/ a box of 50 of Hydra shock. And, I am not even a fan of 1911- as I am just as happy w/ a SA1911 GI which was 1/2 the price of the Ruger. Maybe I will trade it for something else later.

I have a caliber in mind when I go, next is .270 for whitetail. Any advice on a decent .270 for around 300$ or less.

I learned the lesson of not having enough inventory in '08. That won't happen to me again.

I'm not shopping for anything right now.

I have made a few impulse buys of firearms and I'm not sure I want to sit down and take a long hard look at my success rate. But for the most part, I put a whole heckuva lot of time, thought, research and patience in to my gun buys.

Ammo? I only buy rimfire. Even then, I'm partial to a few different very specific brands and I stick to them. I roll all my own centerfire. So to answer the "spirit" of the question, I've made a bunch of "impulse" buys on new powders I've never tried and no bullet with a low price is a bullet I won't give a twirl.

I have plenty of everything I need , or think I need. I don't have near enough of what I want! That being said, I'm staying out of the current buying frenzy. Panic buying is driving prices waay out of proportion to worth. I don't understand what drove the prices of Bushmasters up so high. Why do people want the same weapon used in the massacre so badly.

My purchases are all well thought out these days. I have been buying one gun a year for the past 4 years, so it's always something I really want. Years ago, my collection was much larger and had quite a few impulse buys in there. I like the research and planning tactic much better.

I learned my lesson back in '08, got caught in the shortage with little inventory, won't happen again.

In early '09, I had the cash for a Mini-14, so I bought one with several hi-cap mag's.

In June of 2011, I bought a Ruger SR9-C....been wanting one for awhile.

During the early December Cabela's sales.....I loaded up on about 2000 rounds of .22 LR.

I loaded up on component's for 9mm, 40S&W, .223 and .308....I'm still loading the stuff I bought back in '09.

Now I look around at all the panic hoarding and buying and I don't have to worry.

Hhmmm....Given massive increase in NFA funding with its attendant increases in personnel & computer/data-processing capability, I'm wondering if there will be continued opportunity to engage in impulse buying?--Patrice

When I am in a gun store, I always look at the used handgun section. You never know what you will find lurking there. I can afford any treasure that leaps out at me. I am always in the bargain hunting mode. So, it is impulse buying at its purest.

I basically have a list of items I want and when one comes up for a steal I jump on it.

At this point I mostly have "project" purchases. My eyes are much larger than my ?hands, brains, or billfold? so I end up with a number of firearms in various stages of disrepair. My wife love it

Nothin pistol-related (all my guns are wheelguns or single-stack ) but, I hopped in when I could and got a normally-priced AR, two P-mags for it (may go pick up two more if they still have them at my LGS tomorrow) and three surplus Egyptian Maadi AK mags to add to my other nine mixed mags for my RPK.

Strangely... ammo is plentiful in CA and now, even stranger, under normal market price.

Planning ahead. Its hard to really "impulse buy" when there's nothing to buy!

My list includes a couple more AR lower receivers and ammo (9mm, 22lr, 223, and 00buck) ... if I can find them.

I've found the savage model 110/111 to be extremely reliable and accurate, right in your price range too. I have one, and got one for my younger brother when he started hunting too, neither of us have had an issue.

I plan my purchases after researching reviews by others. I was going to wait on a SIG 716 but after the latest mess I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on the purchase.
