Old Springfield Double Barrel 12 gauge

My dad just gave me this old shotgun that he hasnt fired since he was a kid. Its the first time i've seen it out of the closet in 20 years. I dont think its worth much, but i'd like to clean it up and maybe fire it. I dont know what model it is, or the age of it.... any help would be great

Double barrel, break action 12 ga

30' barrel, Brass or copper front sight, Stamped " PROOF TESTED 12 GA" on top of left barrel, "T62383" stamped under left barrel, underside stamped with "k" and "WWPT"

Receiver Stamped "SPRINGFIELD ARMS COMPANY CHICOPEE FALLS MASS.USA" on left side. Inside break "T62383". Bottom stamped with a small square with lines coming from 3 sides. fourarm stamped "t62383"

If anybody can tell me a model number of any info... i need to find a stock, as this one is cracked.......thanks

It's a Stevens. The Springfield was the forerunner of the 311. A 311 stock will fit.

Stevens quit using the Springfield name in 1948. So, before that. I'm just guessing but I'd say it was most likely made around the turn of the century or maybe just before. No way I know of to actually date it. Some say there was a Springfield Arms that was a stand alone company that was acquired by Crescent which was in turn acquired by Stevens. Some say Stevens acquired Springfield before 1900. Some say there never was an actual Springfield Arms co. I dunno what the actual truth is on it but most all the Crescents and Springfields are the same as the 311. Take the stock off and if it has four wooden pins made off the stock itself where it attaches to the reciever that fit inside the reciever the 311 will fit. It may fit if it doesn't have them but may require minor work to get it to.

Contact Boyd's at 605-996-5011 for a 311 replacement stock. They list them as in stock and have more than one to choose from.

Have you considered trying to glue the crack in the stock. Not all that difficult a job in most cases. Spread the crack open, apply epoxy or a waterproof grade wood glue, clamp or hold the crack closed with surgical tubing or clamps and let it dry. Clean off any excess glue after it's dried and refinish the stock if necessary.

Might be worth a try rather than spending money on a new one.

dont think i caln repair the original stock. it is very dry and missing about a 1 inch piece of stock
