Polishing a Barrel?
Just wondering the best and easiest way to accomplish this. I have a bersa thunder 45 uc pro with a black matte barrel that is getting scratched up from use. I am not worried about the scratches but I was thinking about just polishing it. Is this advisable to do or a no no. I have never done any polishing before and have heard vinegar works?
Thanks |

blue and rust remover, good buffing wheel and your choice of polishing compound. I usually use a buffing attachment on a dremel when I polish small parts

you may end up with a brushed steel or even a chrome look depending on how much time you put into it.

Well I dropped it in some vinegar since it is non abrasive. But I tried to plug the end of the barrel and didn't see a pin size hole in the end of the plug. I got vinegar down the inside of the barrel. Am I to assume this barrel is shot now.....

The barrel is fine.
Think about this next time: If the blued barrel has wear marks, wouldn't the polished barrel get the same wear marks? |

I have done it many times to various moving parts and seems fine, or you can just duracoat it but I guess everything will wear over time

Do this outside.
Toilet bowl cleaner removes the blue. Then hit with 600 emery paper. Back the paper with a solid object so you don't round off anything.
