Loading for the Marlin 1895g

When i got my Marlin i found that i couldnt get good velocity out of the standard powders listed these days like IMR4895. The reason is, its an 18in
barrel and most loads listed are for the longer 45-70s.
I looked in an old Hornady manual-1977 and found a listing for IMR4227.
By my chronograph im getting much better velocitys.
I load 300gr lead with 36gr of 4227 , and 300gr jacketed HP with 37.5 gr.
Vel is 1825fps. This is a mild load and pleasant to shoot.
The top load listed is for Ruger and Marlin only,--not for the old trapdoors.
It is 50.6gr of IMR4227 on a 300gr Jacketed hollow point. HOT! 2400fps.
I dont even want to go there----my shoulder wouldnt like it !
The 2100fps load is 45.0grs of 4227 on a 300gr Hollow point. or
2100fps----45.3grs of 4227 on a 500gr jacketed round nose.
ONCE AGAIN= THESE LOADS WERE LISTED AS FOR MODERN RUGER AND MARLIN RIFLES, NOT FOR OLDER TRAPDOOR TYPE RIFLES !!

4227 is too fast. 4198 (I prefer H198) is as fast as you should go for top velocity. 4895 is a touch too slow. I've used H4198, H322, BenchMark and H335 and I settled on H4198. There's just not enough case capacity for the slower powders.

I have had great luck and extremely good accuracy with H4198.
