No one ever puts Star Machine Works as a choice on this kind of poll. And yes, they still make them on a limited basis. The company is in Pioneer, California. I've heard that Dillon used the Star as the basis for his line of presses.

Why are you asking? I see you asked about single stage too! What are going to reload? How much are you going reload? How much room do you have? A little of a lot a different ammo? A lot of the same ammo? That makes the question easier to answer!

I have a Lee Classic Cast Turrent that works fine but their loadmaster progressive is a plastic laden piece of garbage that wally world would be proud to import from china.. No heresay I've got one of them...
Replaced it with a Hornady LNL with the auto case feeder.. Awesome press with no constant tinkering like the L@@... |

I didn't vote....
because I only have experience with my Dillon 650. I like it. I love the case feeder! Yesterday I estimated I was comfortably doing 700 cartridges per hour w/out preloading my primer tubes. Great customer service so far too.
If I get another press I might just give the Hornady a try. I do my S&W 500 and rifle cartridges on a Redding t7 turret press. |

I'm sure that there are some great presses out there, but I love them Dillons.
I have three of them. I load 45 APC on the Square deal, The rest of the pistol calibers, I do on the 550B, and the 650, I do rifle calibers. |

The Dillon 550 is great. My next progressive will be a Super 1050.

I felt uncomfortable making a selection. Why? - I have a Hornady LnL and have no experience with any of the other progressive presses in your poll.
Maybe someone has experience with several of them and can give us a better opinion. Sadly, too many people will flat out tell you one kind is the best AND yet, they have zero experience with any press but the one they're raving about - go figure. I have the Hornady LnL, I enjoy the LnL, but I know there are other high quality presses out there. When I made my purchase, I was torn between the Dillon 550B and the LnL. For a number of reasons, I went with the LnL. Hack |

I have loaded on both the Dillon 550 and the Hornady LNL. I bought the LNL and I am very satisfied. BOTH THE 550 and LNL loads great! It's just that there were features on the LNL that I liked better.

Dillon 1050 for rifle that has crimped primer pockets and the 650 for the rest.

I've got a Dillon SDB that I use for .45ACP and .38spl. It flat-out works. Once it's set, it's set. I've used several different Lee products, and they certainly work well, especially the dies, but they require a lot of maintenance and tinkering. I say that based on my personal experience and 2 other people that I know personally. Both of them love their Lee progressive presses, but they also love to tinker with stuff. I hate to tinker with stuff, so I like the Dillon a lot better.
They also have kick-ass customer service. I purchased my SDB used from a member of this forum, and the Postal Service beat up the box a bit and a bracket broke during shipping. I called Dillon and they sent me a new one, no questions asked, which I received in 2 days.
