Mrs's found out a friend at work had a like NIB Ruger stainless mini-14 and went wild for it. Shot a mini 14 while growing up, killing ground hogs. Well, to make a long story short I bought it for her and now she is wanting a couple of more 20 rd. mags for it. Whats the scoop on 20 rd. mags for the mini 14? Who makes good ones and who makes crap? Thanks in advance.

I swear by the PMI 20 round mags. I have six and all work great. Also, if you want to get 10 rounders, there is an outfit called Madsen that is making them. I haven't gotten any, but a bunch of people on the Mini 14 list really like them. I think the 10 rounders being sold by Cheaper Than Dirt are Madsen mags - unless they are also selling USA mags. Stay away from the USA mags, some work, but many don't.

I've had good experiences with 30 rounders made by PRECISION. Wish I had some 20 rounders--the 30s are tough to use prone.

sarge; Try www.clipsnstuff.com but they won't have them for long! PMI's are the only way to go. Good Luck, j.s.

I've got 3 PMI 30 round mags, 2 stainless steel, and 1 blue steel. The blue sttel mag works like a charm; the 2 SS mags are new, just got'em a couple of days ago. I have yet to shoot with them, but I think I'm doing something wrong: loading the new ones is very difficult. The follower becomes angled inside the mag column and tends to get stuck. I've tried oiling the springs, the follower, and the inner sides of the column itself, but still the same results.

ANyone have any ideas? I'm hoping that it's because thery're new and this problem will resolve itself once the mags become broken in.

Any tips or advice is much appreciated.

Also, I have a Thermold 30 rounder and it is a quality piece of plastic. Anyone have any opinions on the Ramline AR-15/Mini-14 30 rd. Thermold mags? Is this mag the same one that I have?

Thank you for your time,
