Marlin Camp 9 Loads

Anyone out there every develop a handload for 115 or 124grain JHP for this or any other 9mm carbine with a velocity at or over 1300 FPS? If so what powder and pills did you use?

I've got a 9MM carbine 16" barrel. The 9MM case volume just doesn't give tremendous velocity gains in longer barrels. Just about any load in your 4" pistol will give 200-225 fps more in the longer barrels. The only loads I've chrono'd gave about 1050 fps in a 4" pistol versus 1240 in the carbine. That's with 124 fmj bullets. Again, just about any load in your pistol that makes 1100
fps will get near or slightly over 1300 in your carbine. Some have experimented with extremely slow powders for 9MM and get just a little extra feet per second versus regular 9MM powders. I'd stay with your standard 115 and 124 grain loads. The 115 grain bullets should have no trouble at all going 1300 and even up to 1400 fps in your carbine.

I agree with rg1, the velocity gain between a locked breech 9x19 pistol and a straight blow-back 9x19 carbine is about 2-300 fps depending on bullet weight.
Slower powders will most likely cause problems in the Camp Carbine.

Thanks for the replies. On another forum I posed the same question yesterday and somebody suggested Power Pistol. I tried it today and it works great - 200 to 300 FPS over a pistol (velocities of 1400 to 1500 FPS). Just what I was looking for. BTW the original reason for asking is that I tried AA#2 and #7 and Win 231. With AA#2 and Win 231 got only 50 to 100 FPS with 115 and 125 grain bullets. With AA#7 got about 100 to 125 FPS with the same bullets. With 147 grain bullets and AA#2, Win 231 and AA#7 the velocity was only slightly higher or slower than pistol. Going to try PP with 147s next.

I have been wanting to try Power Pistol, I think it would work well in a several cartridges I load for. I have had good results with Unique in the Marlin Camp 9mm and .45acp, I'm taking a brake from Unique and I'm using AA#5 for now with PP being the next likely candidate.

From what I have heard/read, Blue dot works very well for this. It is a slow pistol powder, and should gain a bit from the longer barrel.

Make sure you are using a good buffer and a Wolff increased power recoil spring. I would hate to see you beat your Camp-9 to death. Trust me, I "know". Enjoy. -Goodspeed

9 mm rifle

There are several loads that fit the bill according to my "One Book/One Caliber load manual Sierra has a section on 9 mm rifle in which they used a Marlin model 9 as their test gun.Their data says 115 gr bullets go up to 1400 FPS and their 125 gr FMJ was up to 1300 FPS.They used Herco and Blue Dot for the 115's and just Blue Dot for their 125's.I would also say look into HS-6,as it gives top velocities in 115's in all the load data that I have found.

I broke the hammer strut bridge in my camp .45 a Blackjack buffer and a stiffer recoil spring is good advise.

Already replaced the recoil spring and buffer with wolf 21 lb and blackjack after the incident described below - the factory buffer was blown to pieces.

I bought the gun used. Looked really nice. Couldn't wait to try it. Before I discovered the need to install the above I took it to the range and shot some WWB 115 grain in it. After 10 shots the rifle blew a chunk of stock behind the heel of the receiver into my safety glasses and almost knocked them off. I was lucky to find the piece and fixed the stock. Also fiberglassed and epoxy reinforced it. Now all is well. I was also lucky to find a new wood stock and a Choate Telescoping stock in case I ever need them.

Since I have owned this rifle I have learned how to dramatically improve the trigger pull (crisp and light) without misfires, trigger reset issues, or hammer follow drama and also how to remove the pesky magazine disconnect (ruined a few hammers, sears and springs in the process though). I can now take apart and put the trigger group back together in my sleep.

Now the rifle is a real pleasure to shoot. It is very reliable, accurate and fast pointing. A perfect rifle for the type of three gun and running deer matches shot around where I live.
