I've tried Mineral Spirits, I've tried Nu Finish.
These days I use walnut media, Meguiars Liquid Cleaner Wax and quartered (used) dryer sheets.

I "prep" the media with a fair squirt of the Meguiars, tumble it for a while, then add the dryer sheet squares and the brass. About every third or fourth batch I re-prep the media with another squirt of Meguiars.

I get really clean and shiny brass that stays shiny (because it's got a wax job?).

I've been doing this for a few years now and several thousand rounds and it's worked great!

Perhaps so... wouldn't mind trying the Meguiars Liquid Cleaner Wax if it isn't too expensive. I've heard of people using their swirl remover....but not the cleaner wax. I thought the abrasive in swirl remover might be too fine for brass scratched by walnut...or corncob for that matter. Like using 2400 sand paper when you need 400 first.

The use of mineral spirits with a tumbler is flat out dangerous. Your tumbler's motor is not explosion proof, so you're mixing a flammable liquid with a flammable medium over a non-encapsulated motor. Than you turn it on and let it run for a couple hours unattended. I hope your insurance agent is as impressed by shiny brass as you are.
Love it! Thanks.

Meguiars Liquid Cleaner Wax

That wax/cleaner works better than anything I have ever tried on my vehicles-easy on and off and it really works. Next change of media the nu-finish don't get used
