Using 209 primers instead of #11 caps?
For some reason Orschelin doesn't have any #10 or 11 caps. All thay have are 209 primers. I didn't buy them because I didn't think they would work, but figured I could ask anyway.

caps go over the nipple. 209 are shotgun primers and go into the ignition hole. they will not work unless you have the proper conversion.

What kind of M/L are you working with? All caps or primers, have a specific application. Confused ??

Unfortunately for you, 209's will not work on a percussion revolver.
Only #10's or #11's work on the revolvers that you mentioned. Where are you out of? Perhaps someone can suggest where you can procure some #11's or #10's locally.

The only way you could use 209 shotgun primers is if you had a custom cylinder designed to use them, this would include a firing pin or firing pins as part of the cylinder or a custom hammer that has a firing pin instead of a flat face.
209 primers were originally meant for reloading shotgun shells. |

The 209 primers contain about 4-5 times the priming compound of a regular cap. They were designed to light off charges of very fast burning shotgun smokeless powder. When a shotgun shell is fired the combustion chamber increases in volume rapidily due to large bore size. You want all the powder burning as soon as possible.
