NYC OC Spray

This is a favor for a friend. The friend is going to Manhattan and given the gun bans wants to take OC Spray (thus gun related - ban !).

My research says you can carry OC but it must be bought in NYC and can't be brought into the state. I wonder if anyone was prosecuted for this.

So does anyone know of a place to buy in Manhattan?

Now - this is a specific question. Save us complaints about NYC, suggestions to carry a gun illegally, carry wasp spray, etc. Don't tell me how YOU won't go there.

I'd appreciate a clue if you know where to get it.

My understanding is that it does have to be purchased in the state. It's only sold by firearms dealers and pharmacists, and the transaction is recorded in a log book.

Relevant state law is here.

Don't forget that "The Island The Indians Got a Good Deal on" has its own sets of laws which frequently restrict even further the State laws.
I'd suggest clarifying if NYC law specifically is the same as NYS law on this point.

Glenn,

Check out this link.

http://newyorkdailyphoto.com/nydppress/?p=297

Interesting info from the site:

Quote:
Jovino Gun Shop, at 183 Grand Street in Little Italy, is the city’s oldest, established in 1911 (their sign claims to be the oldest in the U.S.A.).
Quote:
The shop is owned by Anthony Imperato, who also owns the Henry Repeating Arms factory in Brooklyn.
And sure enough.... the Henry site lists him. http://henryrepeating.com/contact-henry-arms.cfm

Its in Lower Manhattan (as if I know where that is) in the Little Italy area (which sounds yummy as I'm 1/2 Italian - 3rd generation from Italy/Sicily)

183 Grand St
New York, NY 10013
Neighborhood: Little Italy

The above listed would probably be the best bet. It's easily accessible via subway and is in a tourist friendly area so it wouldn't have to be a one purpose trip.

Thanks folks, my friend appreciates this.

We chortled over the ridiculous nature of just buying a pepper spray.

Geez.
