Hey No. VAers... Let's head out to Bull Run again...

Who's up for another round of shotgun sports at Bull Run?

I don't think my luck will hold.

I've never shot over there before, but drive by every day. What's available?

I'd love to, but the first two weekends of October are bad (travel and church activities, respectively)...anytime after that and I'd be good to go.

Cheers.

Shotgun sports at Bull Run, trap, skeek, wobble trap (5-stand) and sporting clays.

I'm going to be in Pennsylvania both this coming weekend and the next weekend, so I'm thinking the weekend of the 20th or 27th.

I'll see you all there again. Once we get a date and confirm there are no special events going on, lets make a reservation for a round of sporting clays.

Anyone been to the NRA Range since they closed down for maintenance work?

I'm up for Sporting Clays.

I've been to the NRA several times since they re-opened. The last time was on a Thursday night, and they were pretty crowded with new shooters. (This was post 9/11.)

Mike, Oct. 28 (Sunday) is the TFL meet in PA, and I'm still planning to go to that. Any other day is OK though.

I have yet to fire my new (old) shotgun, so I should probably test it first. I believe Gilbert's allows shotguns as long as the range is relatively empty. Does the NRA range permit shotguns?

edit: My other problem is that I only have a full choke, and everybody seems to be sold out of Mossberg 12ga modified/IC/skeet/etc. Any suggestions?

David,
Try calling over to Galyan's (703-803-0300) and ask for their hunting/firearms dept. They're located off Route 66 at 12501 Fair Lakes Circle, Fairfax. It's on the way to Bull Run if you travel on 66. I live nearby and I believe you can get there by exiting off Rt. 66 (Exit 55) at the Fairfax County Parkway exit and turn Right onto Fair Lakes Circle.

I've never tried sporting clays, is this a good way to try it out, or should I wait for a better time? (Sometimes rookies get in the way)

Roger, come on out. I was a total newbie last time at wobble trap, and I still did pretty well. From what I've heard, sporting clays is challenging for beginners and experts, but fun anyway.

Roadrunner, last time I was at Galyan's they only had 20ga chokes for Mossberg. I'll try again and see if they've restocked.

The C&E Gunshow in Richmond is Oct. 20-21. Is that a conflict for anybody? If not, that might be a good weekend.

I might try and make it down. Hopefully there won't be tons of people jamming up traffic this time.

What are you guys going to be for Halloween?

How does that sound to everyone?

Well crap and poop. It looks like it's going to be a thin crowd this time around.

So far, from my IM, the following people can make it -- Me, David, Marty, Roadrunner, Roger.

I think my friend Herb is out of town this weekend.

Word to the wise.

NO ONE had better try to rent that Browning Sporting Clays out from under me.

I may be able to drag a friend along. I'll see.

I still haven't test-fired the shotgun, but I'll make sure it works before Saturday.

Mike (and all),

Unfortunately, I will be in Maryland, at a friend's farm, Friday and Saturday black powder hunting for deer, shotgunning for doves, and target shooting with my handguns.

I wish I could join all of you, but this commitment is long-standing -- and it is sure to be a lot of fun.

With best regards to all -- Roy
