25-06 Reloading Data?
Does anyone have any data on reloading a 25-06 with 117g. RN with IMR 3031? I put together 3 rounds by opps with 43 grains of powder. Pull them and start over? Or would this be ok to shoot? Anyone have any info on that bullet weight and powder?

I quickly checked Sierra and Hodgdon and neither listed a load for that fast a powder. Why waste the cost of the bullets and powder for a powder you aren't sure about. Learn by pulling those rounds down and using a properly developed load would be my suggestion.

No the opps was using the wrong table... I took load data for the 87 gr. and not the 117 grain. I use that powder in my 35 Rem. it called for the right stuff.
I just loaded a few 35 Rems and was changing to do the 25 06. Left the bench to cook some dinner and when I came back I didn't notice that the page turned. so when I put the bench in order, I was looking at the wrong table i.e. 87 grain. I recheck everything after every 3 rounds. Good thing.... Thats when I found the OPPS... Update: Pulled all three and reset up looking at the proper table. |

IMHO, 3031 is too fast burning for the 25-06. You can use it for 87gr, but I would never use it for the heavy bullets. Probably the reason you can't find data.

43.0 w/117s is a little to hot.
Try scaling IMR-3031 up to 40.5-grs. {Max}. 3031 is not a preferred powder for this cartridge. |

You were right to pull them and start over.
While 3031 might not be in the top 5 list of preferred powders for the 25-06, there are loads for it with both 117 and 120gr bullets, which can be very effective and very accurate. I doubt many here feel 3031 is an ideal powder for the .270 Win either, but I have a very good load which uses it and 130gr bullets. It is superbly accurate, and in fact my 11yr old grandson used this very load weekend before last to put a 130gr Nosler Solid Base out to a lasered 250yds, to make an ear hole shot on a 250# hog out across my back pasture. Just because it isn't mainstream don't mean it won't work, or work well.
