Idaho elk seasons...

This year, they are abnormally long, for any weapon, at least... About 1/3 of the state opened up on August 3d, and parts are open through December 31st. Are they running rampant? I have yet to bag an elk, and I really only want the meat, anyone know if they are just so plentiful they want them thinned a bit? Most long seasons are cow elk, which is why I ask.

most of idahos tourism comes from hunting and fishing. almost all of their seasons are longer and even has no quota on the wolf hunting this year. since we are one of the few states that actually spends within our means, they are most likely attempting to increase the number of out of state hunters coming into the sate and boosting our economy

I guess it depends on where you live. I hunt in the Lolo area and I have seen far fewer elk than I see on a typical year. May be Easter or Western Idaho have seen more numbers?
