MrGee I am new to reloading so I cant offer any pet loads but got the Basic Reloaders Manual off Hodgdon's site and it came in the mail a couple days ago and for the 308 Win they have this:

Case: Winchester
PR: Federal 210M

And for your bullet the 168Gr Sierra HPBT with Varget they suggest a 46.0GR's MAX load .

They used a 24inch barrel and the velocity was 2731fps.

I hope this helps. Just since I am posting a Max load and there are rules about it here Remember to back off 10% of this load and work your way up So that means you will start at about 41.5gr's of powder

Just a note to follow up. The Varget will perform better as a full house load, so back off the proper amount and work up to the 46 watching for pressure signs (flattened primers, difficult bolt lift, etc.) Your optimium load should be somewhere around the 46 gr., or a liitle less depending on your rifle.

A Sierra 168 gr MK and 45.0 gr of Varget shoot very nicely and runs 2750 fps from my 26" Winchester model 70 .308.

I am shooting just 43.9 gr. varget out to 500 yards and did fine. CCI primers, Win Brass, 168g SMK. When i normally just shoot 100 yards, i just use the min load (42gr.).

I've shot the 175 grain Sierra MK over 44.6 grains of Varget from new Winchester cases fired by the Federal 210M primer. They average 2687 fps from my 24 inch tac rifle tube. I prefer the 175 because I've seen the 168 start to tumble and keyhole beyond 700 yards, and not just from my gun. The 175 is better ballistically and remains stable to 1000 yards (as far as I've shot with it).

thats super info guys are you playing with seating depth or just the standard 2.80 OAL / 2.05 case trime ? [2.845 is max in mag.box they stick after that] The Win Brass,an 168g SMK. was recommended before DanV so thats watt i bought an using. for a note- 1-12 twist which i just read today...a 170gr bullet should work best. So i guess i'll have to try the 175's Unclenick next time i trip to the gunshop .. can't wait to try this new baby out.. i made up a few diff... stages as Dimtris mention but started at 43. an stopped at Scotts 45. for now so will see i have some site-in an warm ammo left over from my M1A which i sold an now waiting on my scope to come
.
308 8" For bullets heavier than 220gr.

10" For bullets up to 220 gr.

12" For bullets up to 170 gr.

14"* For bullets up to 168 gr.

15"* For bullets up to 150 gr.

MrGee, i have been keeping my COL at 2.887. I've been tinkering with the COL for a little bit. I just ordered a stony point gauge to measure where my lands are. I accidently forgot to order the adapter for the .308 so that is on the way. A very good gunsmith in the area told me to seat it at 2.888 and if that doesn't fit, back it to 2.887. I found that 2.887 works best for me...until i get that gauge in. I tried IMR 4064 today 42 grains. I had it on winchest brass, cci primer and 168 Sierra Match King. I shot it at 200 yards and my tightest 3 shot group was .74. My COL was 2.810 since i wanted them all to fit into the magazine. Was still pretty disappointed with the groups though. Weather was perfect too. I shot 43.9grains varget at 300 yards with my COL being 2.887 and had a .5inch 3-shot group at 300 yards. I'll keep experimenting and let you know. I am going to try reloader 15 next, then i'm going to switch to 175 SMK king and try imr, varget and realoder 15 with that.

Varget

Varget is made by Australian Defence Industries (ADI) under the Australian title of AR2208. Their website, which is excellent is under ADI.........
if you cant find it let me know. Also if your real keen I could post you over their latest manual when they release it in the next month.

Good Luck
Sean

www.snipershide.com has a plethora of information on loading the 308.

The brass to use is Lapua, with Win a close second.
The primer to use is CCI BR2 with Varget.
The lapua bullets are great too, but the benchmark would be the SMK.
Anothe thought, is getting Nosler CC seconds from Nosler direct!
