.480 ruger loads
I'm getting a Ruger Super Redhawk in .480 Ruger. I prefer cast bullets for cost, but am not opposed to other options. What loads have you guys cooked that were accurate? Thanks for your input.

412gr Hunter hard cast and 19.5gr of WW296, I tried 20.0 but had sticky ejection. I've got my eye on a new 400gr that has a longer nose (less bullet in case=more room for powder). I'd like to get 1300fps without the sticky ejection. I know I'm close.

Those loads sound impressive! How about some mid level loads using Unique or something comparable maybe? I think I'll be using 400 grain cast bullets as well.

I've been running 19.5 gr of 296 behind Beartooth Bullet's 420 gr WFN Gas Checked out of my Ruger Super Redhawk. Recoil was surprisingly mild, and was quite accurate at 25 yards. I was going to try 20 gr next. Only time I have ever had extraction problems was with hornady brass (even with their commercial ammo). I've had great luck with Starline brass.

Awesome info guys. Thank you. I'm going to order up some bullets for it in the 400gr. range. I am assuming I don't really need gas checks since they aren't exactly screaming down the barrel. What do you guys think? What BNH should I be looking for?

I seem to remember Jeff Quinn using Unique for some midrange loads. IIRC 10.0gr with a 325 or 335gr cast bullets. www.gunblast.com
I figured if I want to shoot midrange 480s I can just shoot my 44mag lol.
