Rock Island Tactical 2011 Question???
Hey, just fondled one of these at the LGS and fell in lust bad. Model 51485 with the vz grips, magwell, F/O front sight. Really felt nice in the hand, gripped good, solid build with no slop. I was really surprised for a Phillipine 1911. But, me being me, I've got a couple questions before I spend my hard earned dinero. Firstly, do they all come with the magwell installed or just the upgraded VZ grip options. Secondly, what's the opinion of the VZ Grips? Are they worth the $? Lastly, does anyone feel the night sights are worth the extra $100 they charge.
Thanks, James. |

I have the 2011 Tactical 5" without the fiber optic sight and regular checkered wood grips and I love it. The fiber optic sight would be a big upgrade over the plain black that mine came with. You would have to ask the dealer about the mag well, but the VZ grips look good.
I have 700ish rounds through mine and it has been great! |

I have last year's model and it's been great. It was only $450 when I bought it back then but it's been a great gun. For the money it's tough to beat. The only negative is the mags; they suck. Other than that you're good to go.

Sounds reassuring to hear such confident praise. I am probably gonna have to pic one of these up. Can anyone tell me if the plain model has 3-dot sights or just plain black contrast sights like the lower end Kimber pistols do?

Unless otherwise specified, assume it has plain black sights. That's the way my 2011 Tactical came.

What I figured. Guess I'm popping for the VZ version to get better sights and the nicer grips.
We'll see what the FFL can get me....? |

I've never been a fan of hi-cap 1911's. The single stack frame just fits in my hand so well. And I can shoot it pretty well too. Now a 9mm in a single stack frame with the full rail I might be interested in....
