What is the most accurate brand you shoot? And have any of you found any MID-RANGE ammo for sale? If so, where?

I know a guy who swears by Blazer for his G17. He's a really good shooter too so it's probably accurate enough. Of course, that's 9mm and 45 ACP may be an entirely different story.

I suggest trying some Magtech. I have found that it is accurate and fairly cheap. You should be able to pick it up for about $10/box. The only brand that I have seen cheaper is Wolf.

Federals "Classic" line, has a 230 grn. Match load, (I believe #45A)that has always been accurate in my guns. It is a bit expensive, but I think its worth it.

I love CCI Blazer too. Wal Mart has it for $9.50 a box.. Accurate too.. Made in the US too

I know with long range rifle work, ammo matters a great deal. I don't know if it does or does not with handguns, so I really want to know:

can you get ammo that would turn an accurate shooter/hangun inaccurate?

Yep. A chain is no stronger than its weakest link. YOU are part of that chain, the gun is part of it, and the ammo is part of it.

Poor quality control can give you variations in powder charge big enough to affect accuracy. So can poor seating depth control, so also inconsistent crimps.

If you are only plinking you may not notice. But you need to shoot paper for accuracy if you are going to improve your COMBAT shooting.

I think Blazer and S&B are both just fine, but maybe with my shooting skills, I would not know good ammo from bad?

If you want some reduced recoil stuff, I have been impressed with Winchester 185 target load (flat nosed fmj ball, or pseudo SWC). It is seemingly perfectly accurate and the recoil is considerably less. DO NOT GET THE WINCLEAN VERSION of this ammo. I don't know why, but we have tried it in several 1911s and have had troubles with it cycling. Other folks report ignition problems which I don't think we have experienced. The non-Winclean stuff seems to cycle just fine and ignite just fine. I like to use it when working on off hand shooting.

If you send them your brass they will send you back loaded ammo. I thinks its $130 per 1000 for ball ammo in 45 acp. the web site will tell you for sure.

Forget about it ,start reloading!! Get a good couple a books, (The A,B,C's to reloading)is a good one, and ask a seasoned reloader for some hands on. If you like to shoot its the only way to go. After the initial expence you can load your .45s for 5/6 bucks for 50rnds. But if you really cant take the dive go blazer's.

I've had nothing but good results with S&B as well as MagTech. But I prefer the S&B (even with that red primer sealer that gets all over your hands).

PMC has also worked well for me, but it's a little more expensive than the other two.

Price is generally NOT an indicator of how a specific load will perform from YOUR gun.

I always recommend starting at or near the bottom of the PRICE ladder and working upward in cost until your desired performance is reached.

Of course, I still only recommend high-quality ammo of the reloadable kind; sole exception - CCI / Blazer, just because it can work SO WELL.

Also might investigate the remanufactured offerings from Georgia Arms (www.georgia-arms.com).
