This might be a dumb question, but is there a highly expandable (a la Black Talon) bullet that would work well in a 45-70? It's not that you'd really need one, but the effect would be cool. I've shot regular hollowpoints, but if there's something better....

What you are asking for is a custom bullet. I am sure on of Corbin's faithful would make it for you -- at some considerable cost. (www.corbins.com for list). Ole 45/70 just doesn't have the velocity to make full weight do anything fancy but who needs fancy when it will put a 1/2 inch hole from end to end of almost any game animal? OR you could use the pistol bullets. It is a pain getting the .452's to stay in a cased sized to hold a .457/.458 bullet. (turn down the neck expander ball...) but then you get the velocities for the unusual... maybe 50% more than the hotest common handgun loads except the Casull... !! good luck.

Thanks! I haven't gotten a reloading set that will work with the 45-70 yet, but when I do I'll let you know how they work.
