bedding epoxy

Which one of the many Devcon epoxy products, is used to bed rifles? All I have used is Accruglas from Brownells. Thanks.

Regular Devcon Plastic Steel's worked great for many folks. Also MarineTex is another brand/type that has a good track record. Bisonite is still another brand/type.

The old Mashburn Arms Co. in Oklahoma city used Black Knight Auto Body Filler for several years.

Just to add my agreement, based on the OP's question..... Devcon Plastic Steel is what I've used for many years. It has never let me down.

However, Bart is quite correct - there are lots of similar epoxies that will do just fine for this.

Some epoxies are almost as thin as paint, others like peanut butter. Add Gold Medal baking flour to the thin stuff to make it thicker. Not too much as a little bit goes a long way. I've usually added a bit to Devcon's Plastic Steel.

The Devcon 10110 putty seems to be the most popular.
I've used Marine-Tex (gray has much more strength than white), but in my experience- and I had a LOT of it with boats- it's temperamental to the mix ratio.

I use JB Weld, and it's fine except for the runny consistency. You've got to move quickly when buttering the sides of the action/stock or it can run off and you can get voids.

Peanut-butter/mayonnaise consistency is best as it give you some working time.

Don't thicken with flour, it's hygroscopic and will absorb water. Cabasil (fumed silica) is the best, but in a pinch powdered flowerpot works well.

As I get older I find hitting a mini ram at 200 yards with the 22 oddly more satisfying.
