Can Shotgun Barrel Be Bored for Chokes?

Probably a dumb question, but is it possible or reasonable to bore shotgun barrel to take threaded chokes? I've got a cylinder barrel that I'd love to be able to get set up for chokes. Either that or I'll have to buy a new barrel!

To a certain extent yes. I have no idea what the limitations are but a past owner of my Remington 1100 at some point did it to the stock barrel of my gun. Its my guess that about 4" were cut off to accomplish this. Not sure why they did it instead of buying a new Rem barrel but the shortened barrel made for a nice bush gun when I used to bird hunt. Its too bad my looser brother lost all but the Mod choke...

It depends entirely on the individual barrel. Some have thin walls that can't take the threads safely, others have enough thickness to be safely threaded.

Some will also thread the outside and screww on an exterior choke tube.

If you already have a "Cylinder Bore" it wont be a problem. I charge $75.00 to install Rem chokes. If you have a dial caliper and can measure the ID and the OD of the barrel I can tell you for sure. If it is over .735 ID it can't be done. You also need a minimum of .015 wall thinkness after it is reamed to .795. Thin wall chokes can be used if needed.
Contact your local gunsmith he can check it all out for you. Prices will vary $75.00 up to $150.00. Good Luck

Lazy D I've got a cylinder bore and it is 7.18 ID and 8.54 OD. How does that work out?

No problem as long as the barrel is concentric. Rem Chokes or Win chokes are a .814" -32 threads per inch. You should have .040 wall thickness which is perfect. Your bore .718 is pretty tight and your smith will probably have to make a bushing to that size. Standard bushings for the reamer are .725-.729 so if he doesn't have one he can make it. I always keep some blank bushings that I can turn down to fit odd bore sizes. Good luck.
