DRT= Dead Right There

Usually means the animal shot was hit with a CNS (Centeral Nervous System) shot resulting in it hitting the ground like a ton of bricks. All so refered to as a "Bang Flop".

yeah,
Mammals don't usually die pretty or easy, even with CNS shots takes several seconds at best...its easy to recognize. more of a bang, flop, kick, kick,spasm, spasm, twitch, twitch then a long stretch as if it just woke up and yawning....then dead if all goes right.

Try anything coyote or smaller with a SX or Blits type bullet at 3500+ and it is DRT! with any decent shot. Smaller stuff explodes in technicolor!

While that's the literal "translation", I take it to mean the animal dropped in it's tracks.

It's not unusual, even with lung shots. A high lung shot can easily disrupt the CNS. They often require a finisher. Neck shots just turn the lights out.

Yep. The very fast blitz bullets expend all their energy in a coyote. Do not exit so the shock to the system results in DRT even if shot placement is not perfect.

Cops and paramedics use the term as well. Will never forget the rookie fireman who saw his first DRT in a wreck where I was first on scene on a bike-actually heard the crash patrolling less than a mile away. Deceased person didn't even live thru the crash. Rookie was so proud of himself with his loud DRT remarks. Firemen are and always have been my heroes but I can't say or hear "DRT" without thinking of that night. DRT's have loved ones too, hope he's learned that.
