Oops went to Walmart for Groceries

My title explains it all. I made the weekly trip to fill my frig up for the week. I stopped at the sporting goods section first.

The young lady working the department was opening up boxes and stocking ammo on the shelves. She had .223 22 45 and 9mm ammo. I tried to buy it all. "Sorry only 3 boxes per customer" I purchases three boxes of federal 9mm FMJ 115gr at 14.67 per box.

I was shocked to find ammo at an excellent price. It made my day. I came home with ammo, no groceries.

Semper Fi,

Charlie

$15/box for 9mm is most decidedly NOT an excellent price.

Around my are it is... lowest I've found in months is $20 a box (don't have a 9mm, but I look at all the prices when I go to the store). Maybe it wasn't a good price pre-2013, but right now I think it's fairly low considering.

... I remember when gas cost 88 cents a gallon too...... doesn't mean I expect it to be so again.

A couple months ago when I was back home in Illinois, the local Wally world got in one heck of a shipment of ammo, including a couple hundred Federal Champion 9mm 115 grn. 100 round value packs for the unbelievably low price of $11 something. Me and my father bought 3 boxes each for several days in a row. I haven't seen a deal like that on 9mm ammo since the start of the whole ammo crisis, online or otherwise. Wish I would have bought more but my new GP100 was calling for some .38s to feed on !

Meh. Keep an eye out online. It's available for cheaper. About the very most I'll ever pay is $0.27/rd for good stuff, and I get irritated about that.

They're only charging that much because people are still buying it as if it's no longer going to be available.... If everyone in America stopped paying these ridiculous prices for just a couple of weeks... prices would come crashing right back down.

Surely you've noticed that the shelves are now completely stacked with guns again whereas they were all bare when everyone went all "OHMYGAWDTHEYBETAKINMAHGUNZ!"....

Ammo is still a little more scarce because all of those people who bought an AR for $2,500 want to shoot it now.

I'm still shooting ammo that I've had since before December... The ammo supply hasn't dried up, it's a self-fulfilling paradox. Everyone thinks there's an ammo shortage, so they buy up all the ammo they can find... so now there's an ammo shortage because people are buying up all the ammo. Manufacturers aren't making LESS ammo - in fact, most of them are making MORE than ever.... but everyone is tickled pink to be paying $15/box for it which means it's going to keep selling for that price until they stop.

I can find the ammo locally at gun shops. They want between $24-$27 a box. They want to charge 1.00 per additional box you purchase. I also remember when gas was a $1.25 a gallon. I could also get a pack of smokes for $1.85.

Nice score for American made brass ammo.

IMO pretty decent price for quality ammo these days. Usually what is cheaper is crappy steel cased import ammo. Some ranges won't even let you shoot such. I won't buy such myself.

The days of quality USA made brass ammo for $10 a box of 50 has probably gone the way of $1.59 gallon of gas and affordable health insurance that was possible not all that long ago pre obama.

Well, if every American would have quit buying gas when it it 1.26 a gallon, we would have these high prices.

I think you may be mis-remembering or the boxes were mis-labeled.

You'll have to get in your wayback machine to get it cheaper than that at most places. You can get reloaded/remanufactured for $ .25 a round but not the good stuff. I check ammoseek.com fairly often and even Blazer and PMC are $ .34-$ .35 a round.

You mean the days of $89 for 1,000 rounds of surplus 9mm is over?
Dang.

Walmart in Cabot Arkansas two days ago, Federal Champion .45 230gr FMJ was $19.97.

I paid 10 cents a pack for cigs in 1966.

That's a good score in today's environment. I lucked out last week with 3 100 round boxes of WWB 9mm. My wife use to think all my ammo was crazy 20 years ago. Now I look like a fortune teller...

Funny, I picked up 1,000rds of Blazer Brass at Gander Mtn online a few weeks ago at 12.89/box with free shipping. Not to mention that most of the reloading houses provide better quality ammo than a lot of the factory new stuff.

Again.. the decent prices are still out there if you're paying attention. If you only get a box here and there at wal mart, I guess $15 is what you can expect for the time being. It will come back down again...

I saw people paying $1/round for 9mm and .223 back in April... newbs

When people stop trying to buy it all.... Prices may drop even lower. For the record, the last 9mm I bought was over $17 per box.

Do we have enough for our SD needs?
Yes
Do we have enough of what we "want"
No
Do we have enough if zombies come
No

If we keep buying just to keep buying and stockpiling why would the ammo companies lower prices.

Once we can finally get ammo purchases down below pre sandy hook numbers then ammo prices have a good chance of returning to normal. If sales stay steady at pre SH consumption then why would they consider bringing prices all the way back down.

For the second week in a row I was able to walk away with nothing...Last weekend there was 45 and 40 flowing out their ears, and I decided I didn't need anymore. This weekend there was 9, 38 and 223 (wolf) on the shelf. The past 3 weekends I'd spent at least 120 bucks each trip.

I kinda kicked myself in the arse for not buying any of the 45. Next weekend I'll probably be upset I didn't buy any 38 or 9mm.

My wife and I shot up a bunch more 38 and 45 this weekend, now I'll be trying to replenish that. LOL
