Need help with classic S&W58

Hey all

I just bought a S&W model 58 from the classic list and it has the small wood grips. I'm thinking of replacing then with larger rubber grips to handle recoil. What is the best ones for this?

Pachmyer makes nice grips and I like the Hogue mono grips also. But what works for me may not be good for you, so I'm not trying to be a smart A. here when I say it depends on what you find comfortable in your hand. Lots of different and good grips out there so kind of depends on what you want. Maybe a larger grips like the wood you have now, or finger grove, two piece, mono grip, or what ever. Look around your local shops handle a few see what you like. If you are like a lot of us you'll probably end up with a pair or two for it.

I have owned 2 of those, and used 2 others. The 2 that were "loaners" were stock and had the grips that S&W put on them.
On the 2 I owned I replaced the issue grips with S&W "target" grips.

I like them better than any of the aftermarket replacements.

Sadly I sold them both, and I regret getting rid of them

Being from the classic shop this #58 has the small wood grips and I've never fired a Magnum revolver with this kind of grip just seems like not enough support for a powerful revolver. I'll check out the target grips and the Pachmyers

I prefer Hogue Monogrips. Many of my S&Ws wear them, including my 1970s Model 58 square butt.

I like the Pachmayr 'Presentation' grip.

If you're only going to shoot single action, the 'large' size may be a tad more comfortable.

If you intend to do any DA shooting, get the 'small' ones as they facilitate better control of the trigger for that mode of shooting.

Both grips cover the backstrap which I consider important for those looking to mitigate recoil pain.

The large and small Pachmayr grips are easy to tell apart because the large ones are joined at the backstrap and fit over the frame like a clamshell.
