Zastava M70A

Just picked up one of these pistols as kind of an impulse buy. The local gun shop had them for sale for $275 which is a better deal for me than getting one from the internet and having it tranferred, etc.

I had been reading about them, and they got favorable reviews. The M70A is just the Yugoslavian M57 Tokarev chambered in 9mm. The Zastava factory turns out both the M57s and M70As.

I just picked it up, so i haven't been able to clean or shoot it yet, but the fit and finish looks just fine. The trigger seems to be about 6 pounds.

Is this what EAA was importing 3 or 4 years ago, in 9mm and .40?

Might be interesting.

EAA was importing a modernized Tokarev made in the same factory.

I think they called it a M80. I can't remember, but I think they had differences like a parkerized finish and possibly a shorter barrel.

Hopefully, someone who knows will chime in.

God, you're teasing me! I've got one on order and it has been 'in processing' for week and I'm dying to get my hands on it and get it to the range. The idea of getting a NEW 9mm Tokarev is just ... well ... special.

My concern now is the possible availability of magazines. It seems that the roll out of these has been sufficiently successful, in so far as most places that had them have sold out, that mags would become available but color me a bit concerned nonetheless.

I'd like a couple more and not have my investment in a couple of mags equal my investment in the gun itself.

Now on to finding a good holster! :-)

I went with the M57 in 7.62x25 simply for the caliber. Granted, 9mm is much more readily available. I do prefer the slide mounted safety over the surplus M57's with the add on one.

They are nicely made for the money. My only gripe is that they should have left the lanyard loop on or made a new grip panel without the lanyard loop divot taken out.

Did you try Century directly for extra 9mm magazines?
