Need help with a load for my 30/06 Please.

Well I bought a box of 110 gr.Hornady FMJ round nose bullets.

I can't find squat on the powder loads, OAL what I did find the bullet would be out of cartridge.

110 gr. Jacketed Bullet.
• IMR 4859 56.0 low 57.9 High
• IMR 3031 51.0 low 54.9 High
• IMR 4320 57.0 low 60.5 High
• IMR 4064 55.0 low 58.5 High
• IMR 8208 52.6 low 56.0 High
• Varget 55.0 low 59.0 High
3.170 OAL


Way wrong as that size won't even fit the cartridge.

So any kind of help appreciated.

I'm almost positive that the 110gr RN you have was meant for the .30 Carbine not a 30-06

you can shoot them, I have a lyman handbook that may have your info.

30 cal usually shoots 150 or 168 or 180 grains.

Please tell us how they shoot.
They are probably for the 30 carbine

They are indeed for the M1 carbine, but shot them in 30-06. I run them over 35 grains of IMR4895 and have good results, if you except they are not match bullets. Kicks like a 223 out of my 1903.

Gunny: The bullet listed for the 3.170" OAL is the Hornady [Spire Point]. Your RN bullet will be fine when seated to 2.820"-2.830" OAL over 51.0gr IMR 3031 for 3252+/- FPS, or 54.9gr. for 3471+/- FPS from 24" barrel per HODGDON 2014 ANNUAL MANUAL;

22" barrels will yield about 35-40 FPS+/- less-per-inch. It does in my Savage 110.

May be fine for varmints and plinking. Not for any big game, though.

Will-j's load oughta work just fine. I always loaded a little hotter with 110-grain spire points, but no big deal. Plinker load, or okay for jackrabbits and coyotes.

Let me ask a follow up question for the bullseye shooters here. Since this particular bullet will be loaded a LOOOOONG way from the lands, what is this likely to do to accuracy?

DOYLE: I won't say [that] it is a *consistent* MOA load in my Savage. My Savage has its better days [more likely... YOURS TRULY], that do see MOA/sub-MOA. Otherwise consistent 1.5-1.75" with either the RN (SP or FMJ) or the SPIRE POINT.

The 9th edition Hornady manual has load data for 110 spire points and Vmax, and while not all the powders you listed are in the Hornady book, some are, and they are in that general neighborhood.

H4895: 43.3 @ 3000 fps, 55.5 @ 3400
IMR 4064: 52.2 @ 3000 fps, 58.0 @ 3400
Varget: 49.7 @ 3000 fps, 58.9 @ 3400

There are also loads listed for AA2520, AA 2495. VV N140, VV N-150 and RL 15. if you want them, let me know.

Wow, yours are way lower then what I got.

Bummer lost again then.

But these are 110 gr Hornady round nose jacketed bullets.

Bullet number is 3017 Hornady.

7th edition Hornady book (first one I picked up) has loads for that bullet.

Loaded a lot of the 100gr half jackets and Speer plinkers as well as 110gr slugs back in the 80s. Accuracy varies with the rifle. Here's a tip, FORGET about COAL data. This is an uber short bullet for the caliber. You cannot seat it "just off the lands".

Seat it at least one full caliber in the neck of the case, and more won't hurt. No matter what you do it is still going to have a long jump to the rifling. Not bad accuracy, generally, but usually not as good as a 150gr + bullet in .30-06.

See attached. As 44 AMP mentioned, the Hornady 7th edition includes the 110 FMJ, not sure why they excluded it from the 9th.

I loaded them , and way back in, so I stopped at 2.890.

Think will be okay as look like already fired ammo.
