barrel removal
I have a H&R Pioneer 765 22 cal. rifle. I would like to seperate the barrel from the reciever in order to put another H&R barrel on I can't seem to get the old barrel off it is pressed in. is this something I can do or do I need to have it pressed off by a gunsmith or machinest?

It is probably pressed in, most cheaper .22's are. I say 'probably' because I'm not 100% sure, so be careful - Numrich's schematics doesn't show the barrel and receiver seperated. It is most likely rusted tight - even if there is no visible rusting - so soaking it for a few days with a penetrating oil will be manditory. As long as you don't crush or warp the reciever in your vice (use padded jaws!) you should be able to drive it out with an appropriately sized wooden dowel. If not, a gunsmith will be your next stop.

barrel removal
thanks for the advice, it worked Great!! I soaked it in penitrating oil for days
and then bough a dowl rod the same size as the barrel, padded the vice and only had to tap the dowl twice and the barrel fell on the floor. the new barrell went in no problem. Thanks again Mike! |
