300 Winchester Magnum

What do you recommend as far as brand/model?

It would help to know your price range you want to spend on a rifle. What are you willing to spend for rifle, scope, mounts? Do you want to buy new or used? Rifles in this caliber can range from <$350 used to over $2000+ for a new one it all depends on what you are willing to spend.

Weatherby Vanguard, Tikka, and Savage will offer good affordable rifles for around $400-$500. Browning, Remington, Sako, and others will run you more money as well as many other brands. I'm sure almost every major manufacturer of hunting rifles chambers this caliber.

When you post a little more info would be helpful.

The following are what I like, not necessarily the 'best' and most certainly probably not the favorites of others.

If I wanted and old used one I would buy a pre 64 Model 70.

If I were buying a brand new .300 Winchester Magnum, I would get a Sako 85 Stainless Synthetic, of course I'd take one of those in any caliber.

If I was in a higher economic class I'd get a Blaser.

If I wanted a good solid hunting rifle at a good price I'd probably get a Rem 700 SPS or maybe a Weatherby Vanguard.

You really could not go wrong with any of the above choices.

i would take either the new model 70 win, which runs arround 1000, or a ruger M77MKII, which run arround 600, both prices are for blued/walnut. but i i was to recomend a .300 mag it would not be the winchester, i would say a Wby mag is better in all catagories, except that it kicks more. also, the vangaurd is a 300 Wby, not a 300 Win.

Are you claiming that the Weatherby Vanguard is not available in .300 Winchester Magnum? If you are you should look again.

New or Used?

New or Used? Hunting, target or both? Price range.

I was just in your shoes, I went with a Howa 1500. Excellent gun at a low price, with a surprising amount of aftermarket supply.
