Walther Model 4

I'm trying to figure out what version Model 4 my father has.He got it in a trade for work quite a few years ago and it's been in his basement ever since. It has virtually no blueing left on it but no rust or pitting and is marked "Waffenfabrik Walther Zella-Mehlis (Thur)" on the right side of the slide and "Walther Patent Ca. 7.65" on the left slide of slide. After looking at descriptions for the model 4, it seemed to have markings from both the 3rd version and 4th version. The serial # is 488xxx if that helps.Any idea on what version it could be, how old and value if any?

Thanks

Walther made the Model 4 from 1910 to 1928; it was discontinued when the PP superseded it. They made around 300,000 of them, with the serial numbers running to at least 483,000. (The difference is because Walther numbered all those older models in the same series. For the PP, they skipped a large block and started with 750000.)

It is a good gun, but fairly common, and top value is around $400. In the condition you describe, even if functional, it would be worth less than $100. There were variations in the Model 4, and there was a Model 3/4 transition model which could be worth a bit more.
