want to get a SW 617 6inches in a few months now...

anyone got one? I have yet to decide on the 6 rounder or the 10 yet... so maybe someone can filll me in on that.

Im just done with spending more than $50 every trip to the range. With this baby it should keep my ammo cost way lower...

Four inch, six shot here. Very accurate and fun to shoot. I would get the 10 shot if I had to do it over again.

I have both 6 and 10 shot, I had the six first and then got the ten for pinshooting. I use the ten shot more than any other pistol I own.

I've got the ten shot 6 incher also, scoped as well. Very accurate, fun to shoot. Mine's in for a trigger job as I have been bench shooting at 50 & 100 yards and wanted it much lighter. As good as the 617 is, I like my Ruger Mark 111 a lot also, especially with the red dot. Get both, with all the money your saving in ammo, it's a no brainer. I never fail to take one or both of them to the range. I usually start with a .22 go to centerfire, and often finish up with the .22....................ck

ds-10-speed........ nice grips on that 6 shot.

I purchased the 617-6" a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately because of California’s one handgun a month rule, it’s still sitting in the dealers safe.

I went with the 617-6 shot because of its similarity in size and weight to my S&W 686. Figured I could get lot’s more inexpensive practice on the 617 and the experience would carry over to the 686.

Yep, it has the internal lock but I’m not bothered by that. I've already gotten new Eagle finger grips that I'm looking forward to putting on.

I have the 4"/10-shot version. It was extremely accurate when I bought it, but then I decided to "improve it". Changed the grips from a rubber Hogue monogrip to a wooden Hogue boot grip, and switched out the black front sight for one with a gold bead. Groups opened up somewhat.

Why does the 10 shot have more cylinder indents than the 6 shot?

It has more indents because the indents are carved between holes in the cylinder. More holes, more indents.

Someone told me that the 10 shot version have an aluminium cylinder. True or false?

If true is that something to worry about?

My 10 shot has a stainless steel cylinder. If I remember correctly, early model 617 revolvers had the aluminum or alloy cylinders.

DS 10 Speed:

Those are great speedloaders. Who makes them? Where did you get them? How do they work?

I really need to get some. They look awesome.

10 shot Speedloader info request

John,

I make them myself since I needed them badly and nobody else was selling them.

I think they work great, "but I'm biased", I've sold over 100 since I started making them and everyone seems to like them.

I have the 8-3/8" in the 6 shot. If I had it to over again I woud get the ten shot. It is almost as accurate as my ruger 77/22 though.

I have a S&W 617 with the 6 shot cylinder (6" barrel). I taught my wife how to shoot with it. It is very accurate revolver. It came with rubber Hougue grips. I recommend this revolver highly.

I just bought an Model 617-2 yesterday, in 99% condition, with the aluminum alloy cylinder. I liked the balance of the 6-inch barrel better, with this aluminum alloy cylinder than this same revolver which normally has the stainless cylinder(A full 6-ounces heavier!)which seems too heavy for my tastes!
