this is a good recipie, but i think i made it better

buy 32 ounces of 99% isopropyll alcohol, i bought two 16 oz. and one bottle of 100% PURE Lanolin oil, fill a two quart sauce pan half full of water, bring to a near boil, if your alcohol and oil have a foil seal pin punch a small hole in them to release any pressure build up from heating, swirl the oil and alcohol in the hot water till the temp. is about 120 degrees F., pour one bottle of warm alcohol in a quart jar or bottle, pour in the oil, cap and shake vigoursly a few seconds, rinse out the oil bottle with the remaining alcohol, ad more alcohol till the quart bottle is full, cap and shake vigoursly a few seconds and BINGO !!! you have the best resizing lube money can buy !! and it will damn near last a life time, pour the lube in a spray bottle capable of a fine mist and have fun reloading !!

Where do you get 99% isopropyl alcohol?

That's nearly lab grade.

I wanted to make my own awhile back but couldn't find lanolin anywhere. Looked around and noticed that the RCBS Case Lube (thick stuff) in the little tiny bottle is "water soluble" so i put a little in my squirt bottle with household alcohol and it works great. I do use coated dies that technically do no require lube, but I find it makes my 38's and 45's much easier to load. FWIW: Walmart sells small squirt bottles with a super fine mist in the pharmacy area...usually in a rack with all the sample products, plastic soap dishes, etc.

in the West we have a grocery store named "Safeway" they carry 99% alcohol, it's not that hard to find.., as for the 100% lanolin oil try health, beauty and cosmetics stores.

I have Safeway here in Virginia (same chain).

I'll have to see if they carry the 99% stuff here in Virginia.

All they usually have is 90% since anything over 70% has no real medical use.
The rest is just water.

Some hardware stores will have IPA in the paint and thinner section. IPA is isoprophyl alcohol. Denatured Alcohol will work also. But it is poisonous, so rubber gloves are highly recommended.

Denatured alcohol is 90% ethanol (the alcohol in booz) which has an addtive to render it otherwise undrinkable. Traditionally, the main additive was 10% methanol, which gave rise to its name, but this is not always the case now.

In the phrase denatured alcohol, denatured means "a specific property of ethanol, its usefulness as a beverage, is removed". The ethanol molecule is not denatured in the sense that its chemical structure is altered. The liquid is only toxic if you either drink it or perhaps bath in it. You do not need gloves to handle it, like when you imbibe Blue Coolade. It is not the methanol itself that is toxic, but the accumulation of metabolites of the methanol in the body.

Thanks shoney, I'll just keep my porous skin covered when handling Denatured alcohol. Wouldnt want any "metabolites of the methanol in the body".

Cheap lubricate stuff, but not homemade, that come to mind are things such as the brandname STP motor oil additive and generic castor oil. best-o-luck

Can't find the 99% stuff anywhere. Has anyone made it with the 91% you can get at Wally World?

let your fingers do the walking !! call around, i found it easy to obtain the 99% alcohol but the 100% lanolin oil was the bigger problem for me, but luckily i found it in a "Health & Beauty Aids" store.

Look in the baby section of the drugstore for lanolin. Breastfeeding women use it.

That is great stuff I have been using it for awhile now and I have really liked it better then anything else I have used. So far I haven't had a stuck case; I just lay the brass on a cookie sheet and give a spritz or two.

For those of you that are looking for the 99% isopropyl alcohol check at the pharmacy they usually have it in stock. Liquid lanolin can usually be found at health food and organic stores, it is the basic ingredient in hand and body lotion I discovered.

As stated above, the alcohol can be got through a pharmacy. I used to special order it in gallon jugs for cleaning circuit boards before the water soluble soldering flux came along.

Back when rolling cases on a pad was the standard method of applying case lube, I learned, like most people, you could just use the orginal STP oil additive to save on the cost of the expensive specially packaged case lubes. $1.50 in the blue 15 oz. bottle at Wally World. For spraying, I suppose you could thin it with alcohol, but alcohol picks up moisture. I would try oderless mineral sprits, and avoid the alcohol fumes altogether. In the spirit of full disclosure, I have to say I have not actually tried spraying it myself.

P.S. I went back and looked at Father Frog's site recipe. It mentions STP at the bottom. I have no clue about the relative immunity of primers or their lack of it to STP, which seems to be an advertised feature of the lanolin. I have always tumbled lube off cases with plain corncob.

Um.. the Dillon spray lube is nothing more than what everyone has been suggesting, Alcohol and Lanolin. I could make it at home like anyone else and the local Whole foods has Lanolin in it's beauty section so I can get that locally. I can usually find 70, 91, and 99% IP alcohol locally too, or I can just spend the $8 when ordering from Dillon and get their lube with a squirt bottle.

If you live near a dairy farm, local farmers should have lanolin on site for their cows teats. Check out a farm supply store. Likely a lot cheaper than the beauty store or pharmacy.

As an aside I make and use Felix lube. Works great in my handguns and rifles.

Didn't mean it to go there. It was starting to sound like some HooDoo bathtub chemistry project.

Bag balm is used for cow udders and like Corn Huskers is good for chapped hands.
Everclear for the 'propellant", no worries about a solvent and metabolites of metnanol, as long as you don't drink it and about as pure an alcohol unless you go with an analytical grade alcohol.

when in doubt, ask your pharmesit (thats what I did with the local safeway) and went to the local "hippy" co-op for the lanolin. havin't mixed it up yet but after the One Shot Fiasco I need something better and it came highly recomended.

I've used Bag Balm as a sizing lube. It works quite well.
