Which Mossberg 590 do I have???

All:

Is it just me or is there a whole slew of different' variants? Mine is the 9 shot parkerized with ghost ring site and bayonet lug. I've seen some just like mine minus the ghost ring and/or bayonet lug, some w/ shorter barrels and ghost ring & without ghost ring, etc, etc, etc.

Sounds like the 590A1 with a 20" bore, I don't think any of the other Mossbergs have a bayo lug. It should say on the side of the gun what model it is; look at the flat left side of the receiver.

It's not milspec as the safety and trigger guard are plastic. It does have the bayo lug, though. Is there such a thing as a 590A1 that ISN'T milspec?

Check out the 590 "special purpose" section

Know your model number? I bet it's 51663. Mine's a 51660.

AV1611,

You have the 20" 590. That's all there is to it. Darn fine shotgun!

The 51663 has the metal safety, HD barrel, etc... That is what it says on the Mossberg website. The 51663 is the 590A1 if I am not mistaken.

I know mines is the 590A1 has it has all the HD Milspec parts on it, and is stamped "590A1" on the left side.

How hard would it to be to put a sight like the above on my 500A?

It only has the bead sight and I would like to upgrade it to a rifle sight.

Cave Canem,

You would probably need a competent gunsmith to add the Ghost Ring sights to your 500A. The front sight is silver soldered to the barrel which requires removal of the blueing/parkerizing, soldering on the sight and then reblueing/parkerizing the barrel. The rear may need to be tapped in place. I am not familiar enough with the 500A's receiver to know if the holes already exist.

HTH,

I guess ill take it to my trusted gun smith and see what he says.

My friend looked at getting ghost ring sights on his shotgun, and the cost was.. let's just say prohibitive (sights alone were over $120, not to mention drill and tapping the reciever!)

Cave,
Most current (last 5 years or so) Mossy 500s have the receiver pre tapped, should be two sets of holes (total of 4).

Per Mossy's website:
Ghost Ring Sight (500® and 590® Rear and Front Sights only- Gunsmithing Required)
Item # 95300...$60.

Check your receiver and see if it is tapped then call your Smith and find out how much to solder the front on.

my 590 does not say the model number on the side. It is drilled and tapped for the rear sight, but only three holes. The front sight is a bead, but it is screwed in. The mag is full length, the barrel is 20 inches. It has the bayonet lug. I have no idea what model it is, but I want a ghost ring sight. Mossberg itself would probably be the the best people to talk to about this one.
