9mm carbine cost

I'd like a 9mm carbine and I'd like to spend no more than $600, am I pretty much limited to a Hi-point or are there other reasonably priced options?

If you own an AR15.... just buy a PSA 9mm upper, and mag block.

I think Chiappa makes a 9mm M1 carbine lookalike, have no idea of the quality though.

Don't be so quick to knock the 995ts. The thing works well and has been reliable as hell for us.

We also looked at KelTec's Sub2000... But at UNDER $300 the 995ts was too good of a deal...

It will not be our last 9mm carbine but it sure is a great first one.

Don't knock the Hi-Point so fast. They are good little rifles. Ugly, yes. To the OP, do you like how the Hi-Point feels and can you live with the limited capacity mags? If so, go for it. I had one for awhile and its a good little rifle. If you want something more customizable, look into buying or building a AR-9. Palmetto State Armory sells complete uppers with bolt carrier group and charging handle pretty reasonably and you can get Glock compatable lowers from them as well.

I'm not knocking the hi-point. I had one and liked it and it may be what I end up with but I'd kinda like to have something a little different if possible

I've been keeping my eye on pricing for a Sub2000, but I'm going to look into other options people have mentioned in this thread now. Thanks for making it!

If you're going to get a 9mm carbine, get one designed for 9mm.
The AR-type guns are large, and you might as well get them in the more powerful .223.
The Keltec Sub is tiny and a lot of fun.

I see the Keltec on Armslist occasionally for ~$500 and the beretta cx4 for around $600-$700.

OP, I bought my psa 9mm for over 700. I replaced the hammer and buffer and everything came out to about 820 after taxes and all.

Best damn firearm purchase I've ever made.

OP if you are not a collector who buys a bunch of useless crap that never gets shot year after year, spend the money on a good quality 9mm carbine. Don't be afraid to spend money on something good.

I got lucky and got in on the Buds Gun Shop Beretta CX4 deal a couple years ago. $629 for the 92 version. It's well worth the extra cost after having owned the HiPoint a few years. They are now over $800 though which is absurd.

So... what's the story on a 9mm upper for an average AR?
I've got a RRA LAR-15. Nothing special about it. It's a very basic 20" EBR.

A 9mm PSA upper and a block in the lower and I can run 9mm... well?! Like... Sten mags? Tell me more, please.

My goal would be single use: plinking steel for grins, 100-300 yards.
Yes, I can do that with .223. (thanks... I do. And with 10 other calibers also)

I would get grins from chucking 9mm at those plates also.

psa 9mm upper needs a ramped bolt and the hammer on the lower must be UN-notched.

or...

unramped bolt with a 9mm hammer.

The magwell insert is a top-down design and you must remove the bolt catch to install it. There are bottom-up inserts you can buy but they are not the most reliable.

The 9mm ar uses colt pattern 9mm mags that can be purchased typically between 15-25 dollars.

Marlin Camp 9mm carbines are well within that $600 price.

Thank you. That gun seems ideal but I think the price on the street these days is a bit higher, closer to $800. I will look around for a used one and see what's out there.

You can find a JR carbine for around $600. Uses glock mags I think. I've got a RRA lar-9. For years I had wanted a 9mm Ar-15. Then last year I got one. And you know what? I think I like my S&W mp15-22 better and it's cheaper. Cheaper to buy and cheaper to shoot.

I strongly suggest you re-consider the Hi-Point 995.

They are phenomenal guns for the money.

I got a Olympic arms 9mm upper for my AR years ago and it uses unmodified sten mags, works great and is alot of fun and I can shoot it at the local indoor pistol range. I know you dont have an AR but it could be a lead into getting both LOL. Life is to short to settle for a gun you dont really like.

9mm Hipoint

+1 for the Hipoint here.Very accurate and the cost is not an indication of its ability. They are +P rated and shoot cast bullets very well.I have an older one with the early stock design and liked it so much I bought another one in 45 ACP last year.

KelTec Sub2000 is a very good option.

I spent 3 hours helping ATI at their range session for media and VIPs. Their new 9mm AR15 ran like a champ for hours shooting almost as fast as a new mag could be put in it. Not on their website yet, but it should be very soon.

On the used market a Beretta CX4 may be the deal. It's very well made and a lot of fun. I found one for only $450, then another I paid $600 for. Worth a look IMHO.

Perpetuated rumor. No facts to back that up.

OP doesn't have AR. I follow up with your suggestion that he get one.. Upper now and pistol lower later.

$700 9mm AR is tough to beat.

Spotty at best. Good looking gun.

Researched this one hard.

I think the Sub2k is better in the sense that it takes larger, more available mags, folds in half and slightly higher quality. Problem is they are going for twice the price of the 995.. Is it twice the gun? IMO no(owned one).

Sometimes guns are just for fun. Not everyone stakes their life on every firearm. Hell I have 4x the guns hanging up unloaded than I do next to the bed or setup for carry.

That being said I have an AR and a CX4 carbine. I replaced the AR as a bedside rifle with the CX4.

Why?
I like it more.

This is what I was going to do until a new Beretta CX-4 fell in my lap for $425. Still wonder what the gun shop owner was thinking.

I came here to recommend the Berreta Cx-4. I've owned the Sub2k and handled all the 9mm carbines(I cast/reload 9mm for less than .22).

Never handled the CX-4 until a month or so ago. I walked out with it.

Quality is quite a few notches above the rest IMO.
