10/22 lighter barrel
I'm in need to reduce the weight of my Ruger 10/22T due to left shoulder issues. I can no longer hold the factory steel bull barrel at arms length. I've done some research on the RFC forum looking for an aluminum barrel with a steel liner. Lots of opinions on who's barrels are better but nothing on material made from. I contacted several mfg's and so far Green Mtn is my only reply, but theirs are only steel and weigh nearly the same.
Any thoughts on a light weight bull barrel would be appreciated. Thanks. E.

You might want to look here:
https://www.volquartsen.com/tags/5-b...13-ruger-10-22 http://www.midwayusa.com/product/422...on-fiber-black Perhaps some of the light weight Volquartsen barrels will work for you. Pricey though... |

Many choices.
To address your situation, I think you would find the Carbon-Fiber barrel, to your liking or the Kidd line-up. ......
http://www.coolguyguns.com/BARRELS_c_8.html Over the weekend, I handled a Magnum Research and you would not believe how light it was, while still maintaining the .920 O.D. There are literally a ton of lightweight barrels out there and most are pricey. Perhaps you night be able to do a partial trade for one. I have mounted a number barrels for folks and currently, my target has a tapered target/varminter barrel. Still a target but not as heavy. .... Good luck and; Be Safe !!!

You might be interested in one of these with a 20" medium contour barrel.
http://ruger.com/products/1022Sporte...eets/1235.html The weight listed is a full pound heavier than the rifle actually weighs. Mine is 7.5 lbs including the scope and mounts. It still may not be light enough for your needs, but it does split the difference in weight between the target model and sporter. With a target barrel and trigger. |

How much are you willing to spend ?
No offense intended. I have a Rimfire Technologies Barreled 10/22... the Barrel is quite light, and the accuracy from it with Fed. 510 is .... well , dang near boring. It is consistently shooting tiny groups.... that is the boring part ! Lol ! I would get one of those barrels again in a heart beat. |
